Your adventure officially begins at 4 pm with a warm welcome meeting. Afterwards, accompany your leader and fellow families on a leisurely walk up Naksan Mountain. From this gentle peak, once part of the ancient city's outer fortress wall, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the sprawling city skyline as dusk begins to fall. As night descends, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of Gwangjang Market, one of Korea's oldest and largest traditional markets. Follow your leader through the maze of energetic stalls, taking in the sights and sounds, before indulging in a delicious local dinner. Perhaps you'll be tempted by the chewy, spicy-sweet delight of tteokbokki or savor a comforting bowl of freshly made kalguksu (hand-cut noodles).
Retreat for the night to the Prima Hotel Jongno, your elegant sanctuary nestled in the heart of the city's vibrant cultural district. Unwind at the rooftop terrace that presents stunning city vistas, inviting you to unwind after a day of discovery.
After a satisfying breakfast, prepare for a captivating journey into modern history. This morning, you'll accompany a local guide to the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ), the poignant strip of land that serves as a buffer between North and South Korea. From the southern side, you’ll gain a profound understanding of how the Korean Peninsula has been divided since the Korean War, a living testament to a conflict frozen in time. Your exploration will take you to the Third Tunnel of Aggression, a clandestine tunnel dug by North Korea, discovered just kilometers from Seoul. You will also see the Unification Bridge, a symbolic crossing point, and visit Imjingak Park, a place of memory and hope filled with statues and monuments. From the Dora Observatory, on a clear day, you may even catch a rare glimpse into the North Korean propaganda village of Kijong-dong.
After a thoughtful lunch, you will be transported back in time with a visit to the magnificent Gyeongbokgung Palace. As the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty, its grand halls, elegant pavilions, and serene courtyards offer a splendid window into Korea’s imperial past. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to shape as you wish. After a final breakfast in Seoul, your journey continues east towards the historic city of Gyeongju, once the magnificent capital of the ancient Silla kingdom. Along the way, you will visit the sprawling Yongin Korean Folk Village, an open-air museum where the traditions of the late Joseon period are vividly preserved. Here, you can wander through a village of nearly 300 traditional houses relocated from across the country, from the humble thatched-roof homes of peasants to the grand tiled residences of the nobility. As you explore, you will encounter dynamic folk performances, including traditional music and dance, that bring history to life. You'll have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture by dressing in colourful hanbok attire, trying your hand at traditional archery, and participating in various hands-on craft workshops.
As the day draws to a close, you will arrive in Gyeongju for a peaceful overnight stay in a traditional hanok, allowing you to continue your immersion in Korea’s rich heritage. Later, you will journey to the serene Girimsa Temple, a tranquil sanctuary nestled in the mountains. Here, you will be invited to sit down for tea with a resident monk, who will share captivating Korean folk tales and explain how these ancient stories have inspired modern cultural phenomena, such as the popular K-pop film "Demon Hunters." This will be followed by an opportunity to get crafty as you make your own Buddhist rosary, a meaningful souvenir of your time at the temple. South Korea has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons, shaped largely by continental influences and seasonal monsoon patterns. Winters are cold and dry, with Seoul averaging around -6°C to 3°C in January, as cold air masses move in from the Asian mainland. Summers are hot and humid, particularly in August, when temperatures in the capital typically range from 25°C to 33°C and the summer monsoon brings heavy rainfall. Spring and autumn are mild and comfortable, with temperatures generally sitting between 10°C and 22°C, making them the most temperate periods of the year. Overall, the country's continental climate produces a wide annual temperature range, from sub-zero winter lows to summer highs above 30°C.
Please note that the seasonal climate of South Korea means that this trip may, for some people, feel more difficult during the hotter/more humid Summer months (July/August/September). If you are travelling in the Spring or Autumn the weather is milder, however it can sometimes be cool and wet. Please ensure that you pack and dress appropriately.

While travelling with us you and your family will experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your group leader will be able to suggest restaurants to try during your trip. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you and your family more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There's no obligation to do this though. If you or a member of your family have dietary requirements and/or food allergies, please let your booking agent know prior to departure.
Dietary Needs: Wherever possible we will cater for dietary needs for included meals, but there may be times when those with special requirements may wish to supplement inclusions with their own supplies from markets or supermarkets. Please note that some dietary requirements, such as Gluten Free, will be uncommon in South Korea and you may need to explain to your leader what you can and can't eat as well as research common dishes before you travel.
Allergies: For those suffering from particular food allergies, your group leader will endeavor to disclose to their fullest knowledge the main ingredients in dishes being consumed. It is, however, your personal responsibility to ensure that you do not ingest any foods to which you are allergic and research suitable local foods before travelling.
Vegetarians & Vegans: Being Vegan or Vegetarian can be difficult in Korea since there is fish sauce or shrimp paste used as fermentation agents. However, there are always plenty of meat free options on menus including vegetable, tofu and egg dishes that come out with rice as a meal. However, keep in mind that we share dishes and dishes may be cooked served along with meat dishes. Your leader can advise on some local favourites or help you order and delivery them. Dairy is uncommon in local cooking. Vegans should also have few problems finding tasty meals in most locations. Nearly all cities will have vegetarian restaurants, often near to temples or monasteries that specialize in Buddhist cuisine.
We know the idea of travelling overseas with picky eaters, particularly kids, can be daunting, however, most of our families find the diversity of Korean food surprising and enjoyable. Trying different foods is great fun and an opportunity to understand a little about Korean culture using all your senses. As well as a Korean BBQ and Korean Hot Pot, some of the other kid-friendly foods you can enjoy are Joomukbap (Korean rice balls), Pajeon (Korean pancakes), Mandu (Korean dumplings), Chikin (Korean fried chicken), Kimbap (similar to sushi), Bulgogi (usually beef with vegetables and rice) and there's plenty more including sweet treats like Korean rice cakes.
Some of our families are surprised by the traditional Korean breakfast foods and the simple options that tourists hotels usually offer. Soup with side dishes of kimchi and rice are the most common breakfast foods in Korean. A typical western breakfast available may include cereal, toast, eggs and fruit. If your family usually like to eat a big breakfast it might be a good idea to have some extra items and snacks on hand for the mornings.
