Perth to Adelaide Nullarbor Group Camping Adventure 10D9N

Driving time: approx. 600km, 10 hours

Departing from Perth, journey east over the beautifully rugged Darling Ranges to the quaint historic township of York. A coffee break in Western Australia’s oldest inland town giving you enough glimpse of lush rolling farmlands and colonial buildings that make up its charm and character.

Continue to the bizarre and beautiful natural wonder of the Wave Rock, a 2,700-million-year-old rock formation. Find yourself eating lunch in the shadow of Wave Rock, rising 15 meters above the ground and more than 100 metres long. While you’re here, be sure to take a great photo of ‘surfing the wave!’

Come late afternoon call into Fitzgerald River National Park. One of Australia’s largest and most botanically significant national parks. Discover a botanical wonderland renowned for its rugged hinterland, coastal scenery and home to more than 1800 spectacular and rare plant species. In winter keep a lookout for southern right whales who pay a visit close to shore with their newborn calves.

You’ll camp at the peaceful and picturesque Fitzgerald River National Park. Roll out your swag for your first magical night under the endless stars of the Milky Way.

Driving time: approx. 250km, 2.5hours

Kick start your morning with a relaxing and brisk hike up East Mt. Baron, a rugged quartzite peak, for magnificent views from the summit. Cruise through the most enchanting stretch of oceanside road you’ll ever see into the remote and utterly remarkable town of Esperance. The dreamiest scenes of crystal-clear turquoise waters amongst snow-white sand that literally shimmers in the sunlight. This part of Western Australia has no less than nine National Parks and some of the most impressive beaches in the world!

This afternoon is yours to choose as you please. Truly immerse in this unbelievable paradise and reconnect with nature. Spend the day catching a glimpse of the unique flora and fauna in one of the many bushwalks just off the beach, stroll along the expansive stretch of the whitest sandy beach at Lucky Bay, swim in the cool crystal-clear waters, spot the occasional whale in the pristine waters, chance upon kangaroos basking in the sun or kick back with new friends on the beach.

You’ll set up camp in the most spectacular of all, Cape Le Grand. A beach haven like no other that it will be your home for the next two nights. Sleep and wake up to the soothing sounds of the ocean.

Rise and shine to a spectacular sunrise and to when the friendly residents of the beach are the most active, the iconic kangaroos. Embrace a magical morning soaking up the morning sun with these sun-baking kangaroos before a day spent uncovering the best kept secrets of Cape Le Grand National Park.

Embark on a moderate 2 hour walk, worth every effort, to a rewarding panoramic view of the pristine coast across Cape Le Grand and the turquoise colours of Recherche Archipelago. With so much rich beauty and unspoiled nature to uncover spend as much or as little as you please. Consume the day exploring diverse bush trails spanning over 17km which traverse the rugged coast and beaches, enjoy top views, stop for a refreshing dip at the many secluded bays and coves, marvel at the diversity of colourful wildflowers and collide with abundant wildlife.

After a day filled of exploration, retire back at camp and refresh in the simple pleasures of a shower before a hearty dinner around the campfire.

Rise with the first light of sunrise as you journey on the greatest outback road trip of all time.

First, grab a bite in the outback town of Norseman before hitting the dirt road eastbound towards the mighty Nullarbor Plain. The name literally means ‘No trees’ as there is not a single tree in sight for miles. This seemingly endless expanse of rusty earth and hardy outback is only broken by the odd mob of kangaroos, camels and emus. Cross the longest stretch of straight road in Australia, the 90 Mile Straight. While here, be sure to take an iconic photo at ‘Australia’s longest straight road’ sign, a great and unique memento! Absorb the scenic drive and marvel at the ever-changing landscapes.

Tonight, be awed by the magical show of constellation and shooting stars as you bush camp on the Nullarbor.

The journey continues across the endless expanse of the mighty Nullarbor Plain. Today discover unique and special sites along the Nullarbor that will excite your road trip. Pop by the ghostly remains of the Old Telegraph Station in Eucla to uncover a landmark before it disappears under the ever-encroaching white sand dunes.

At the end of the day, arrive at the border to South Australia, putting your clock forward 1.5 hours. Travel to Koonalda Homestead, where you’ll have time to explore a historical property in the Nullarbor National Park. Originally a sheep shearing station, it was established as a fuel and rest stop for people travelling along the Nullarbor in the 1950s. It was abandoned in the 1970’s and now is a unique piece of Australian history. Walk into history as you see old fuel browsers that filled so many vehicles to the wrecks of the cars that didn’t make their final destination. Grasp at how truly epic it was to cross the Nullarbor.

Call in for a night’s camping here at Koonalda Homestead. A unique campsite and is now somewhat of a graveyard for cars left broken down on the Nullarbor. An odd yet beautiful scene making it a photographer's dream.

Driving time: approx. 600km, 8hours

Delve deeper and onwards to the magnificent Great Australian Bight, Australia’s ultimate coastline, that is sure to take your breath away. This signature drive reveals iconic sights including the iconic camel-kangaroo-wombat crossing road sign and the magnificent Bunda Cliffs. Admire the Bunda Cliffs that form a part of the world’s longest uninterrupted line of sea cliffs stretching for approximately 200 kilometres along the Great Australian Bight.

Then it’s time to cross the historic Dingo Fence, the world’s longest fence at 5,614 kilometres. Here, you’ll enter the Yalata Aboriginal lands composed of spectacular coastal scenery with large dunes. In the afternoon call into town of Ceduna and visit the Arts and Cultural Centre. Gain insight as you admire the styles and significance of intricate Indigenous artwork. After arrive into the coastal town of Streaky Bay boasting pristine natural wonders and endless sandy beaches. Head out and burn off some energy sandboarding its huge dunes.

You’ll camp at a unique 3000-acre farm stay and eco- bush retreat. Unwind and enjoy a BBQ feast as you settle into your cozy swag in a unique swag hut with a twist!

Driving time: approx. 400km, 4.5hours

Your adventure culminates at Baird Bay with a unique opportunity to literally dive into the Eyre Peninsula and swim with sea lions and dolphins in one interactive experience. Embark on a 3-hour eco-cruise as the ‘puppy dogs of the sea’ twist and twirl around you while the majestic dolphins play. The call of the wild will literally echo around you as you are welcomed into the water of pure magic inside their natural habitat. A highly recommended optional experience to treasure forever. (This is a seasonal tour available from September to May at $200 per person).

Alternatively, if staying on land is your desire, travel to Point Labatt Conservation Park. Just as impressive as it is the only place on the mainland to admire Australian seal pups playing and lazing on the beach. Admire them from atop a viewing platform 50 meters above their beach.

Enjoy the spectacular coastal scenic cruise through Elliston and into Mikkira Station. A special private property as it is home to the Eyre Peninsula's only wild koala population. Find around 170 wild colony of koalas living among the many Manna Gum Trees as well as kangaroos and emus.

Your campsite for the next two nights is at the hidden sanctuary of Mikkira Station. An ample opportunity to see koalas up close and personal as you sleep under koala-filled gum trees. A magical experience! Enjoy the simple luxuries of a shower facilities here.

The sea and wildlife lovers are in for a treat on a full day optional experience coming face-to-face with the majestic and mighty Great White Sharks. From staying dry in a revolutionary glass viewing aqua sub to the more exhilarating option of entering the cage (Prices range depending on your choice, $350-$564).

Alternatively, those who favour dry land can explore the hidden secrets of Port Lincoln and its coastal surroundings. Uncover Whalers Bay boasting harsh rugged coastline, impressive lookouts and beautiful rock pools. Delve deeper to the hidden treasures of Coffin Bay National Park. Marvel at paradise where pillowy sand dunes meet glassy waters brimming with marine life and intertwining with wildlife. Take off your shoes for a stroll at the many hidden pristine beaches, dip in for a refreshing swim all while exploring epic swells, secluded coves and limestone cliffs. Meander through the idyllic seaside of Port Lincoln, the “Seafood Capital of Australia”. The only city on the Eyre Peninsula and located on one of the largest protected harbours in the world.

Unite with the rest of your group, retiring back at camp to hang one last time with the koalas.

Kick start your day the Australian way with a 2-hour surf lesson. Surfing is a way of life in the land down under, pull on a wetsuit and jump into the turquoise and calm water of Fisheries Bay, the perfect place to Hang 10! If you prefer to be dry simply relax, swim or explore the bay at your leisure.

Leave the coast behind as you venture further afield into the dirt roads of the ancient Southern Flinders Ranges. Wander on foot to some of the Flinders' best kept secrets! Immerse in ancient and rugged mountain ranges, dramatic gorges, impressive geological treasures, rich cultural Indigenous heritage and exposed red quartzite cliffs with some of the landscape dating back 800 million years. Collide where the wildlife is in abundance and many are not shy. Keep a lookout for the endangered yellow-footed rock wallaby and also a birdwatcher's delight!

It is in this stunning location, you will set up your last night of camp amongst the dramatic beauty of Mt Remarkable National Park. A grand ending into the magical Flinders Ranges! Enjoy dinner around the campfire with your now new friends and roll out your swag for a final night under the endless stars of the Milky Way.

Reflect on your incredible adventure with a gentle hike to Davey’s Gully boasting incredible views into the Alligator Basin and the gulf. Walk along the beautiful creek line leading through hundred-year-old red river gums and lush native pine forest. You might be lucky to cross paths with emus along the trail!

End your ultimate adventure by sitting back and washing it down with world-class wine that South Australia is renowned for at the picturesque Clare Valley. With a view almost as delicious as the wine list and menu, spend your final moments sipping award winning wines and indulging on a mouth-watering lunch amongst the countryside. While you’re here, be sure to sample a glass of the famous Clare valley Riesling!

After, continue the journey back to Adelaide, arriving approximately 6pm.
