Your adventure begins with a pick up from the charming city of Hobart and into the winding roads of Tasmania’s oldest and most diverse national parks, Mount Field National Park.
Today, set out on one of Tasmania’s best day walks. Journey to Mount Rodway lookout and be captivated by the spectacular views of the park’s unique alpine species on the Pandini Grove and Lake Seal. Keep eyes peeled for the elusive platypus and eastern barred bandicoot along the way. The highlight of the walk are picturesque series of small glacial lakes. These lakes are particularly colourful in Autumn with the Fagus (Australia’s only deciduous tree) turns from red to gold. Marvel at picturesque glaciated landscapes, lakes and valleys in sight before returning into the wooded terrain to Lake Dobson.
Enjoy a leisurely and gentle 20 minutes return walk to the impressive three-tiered Russel Falls, hailed as one of the most photographed falls in Tasmania. Stride along a boardwalk through serene lush temperate rainforests of musk and myrtle. Soak in the tranquility of mossy deep green forest as you watch the water cascading gently over multiple levels.
You’ll stay at a boutique wilderness lodge, Pumphouse Point, sensitively set on the edge of Lake St Clair in the World Heritage Listed Tasmanian wilderness. Start tour day with a peaceful and cosy affair over a highland breakfast gathered in the Shorehouse of Pumphouse Point. Enjoy your morning coffee as you watch bird flit across the lake.
Today, set out with your guide to the trailhead at Cynthia Bay and explore the deepest lake in Australia, Lake St Clair, at 160 metres deep. Set off on a 13km walk embracing the best walking tracks of Lake St Clair traversing the serene Shadow Lake Circuit. The walk journeys through an enchanting temperate rainforest before transitioning to the fragrant Eucalypts woodlands, ferns, myrtle and buttongrass against mosses below. Stride along trickling creeks and traverse river crossings. With Shadow Lake perfectly nestled beneath Little Hugel, enjoy stunning views of the mountain and the pencil pine fringed lake.
Enjoy a local trail lunch amongst picturesque alpine vistas before the option of exploring the Franklin River-Wild National Park. Take on a peaceful short walkthrough cool temperate rainforest leading to a viewing platform with sweeping views of the wild river wilderness of Franking River. Soak in the rugged mountain peak that are dramatic and imposing.
Unwind back at your lakeside retreat with a glass of red cozied up by the roaring fire or take a refreshing stroll down the jetty before a decadent share-table dinner featuring a three-course set menu by the fire.

Begin the day delving deeper into Lake St Clair cruising to discover its rare beauty and diversity. Aboard the ferry to Echo Point for a spectacular short cruise down the majestic dolerite mountain ranges and Gondwanan forests surrounding Lake St Clair, boasting unparalleled views from water. Cradle-Mountain-Lake St Clair has a temperate, four-season climate with mild summers (Dec-Feb) and cold winters (Jun-Aug) with heavy rainfall throughout the year. Average winter temperatures range from –8.3 degree Celsius to 0.2 degrees Celsius, so suitable warm clothing is a must.
Regardless of where and when you travel in Tasmania you should be prepared for sudden, temporary deterioration in the weather, especially if bushwalking. Always carry additional warm clothing including a waterproof outer layer.

The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.Force Majeure'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.EvacuationsIn rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.Travel InsuranceIn view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
