Journey into the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area to Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Taking approximately 2 hours from Launceston, the self drive will take you deep into a timeless realm of pines, glacial lakes and rugged mountains.
In the afternoon, set out on one of Tasmania’s 60 Best Walks, the Dove Lake Circuit Walk. A local guide will accompany you on this easy 4-5-hour circuit, which follows the circumference of the lake and takes you beneath the craggy spires of the indomitable Cradle Mountain. The circuit is boardwalk for much of the way, making it the ideal first hike of your holiday.
You’ll stay the next 2 nights at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge. Situated right on the edge of the national park and overlooking ancient forest, the lodge has everything you need for a cosy stay including beautifully appointed cabins and suites, 2 high-quality restaurants and the award-winning Waldheim Alpine Spa.
In the evening, treat yourself to a 3-course dinner at the lodge’s Tavern Bar & Bistro. The Tavern provides a warm, casual, rustic tavern atmosphere compete with a roaring log fire, pool table, and television.

Lace up your hiking boots for another incredible day in Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Your local guide will tailor the day to suit prevailing weather conditions and your own personal preferences.
Your first option is the Crater Peak Trail (default arrangement). Starting from Ronny Creek, this trail takes you up stone steps to the historic Kitchen Hut and Marion’s Lookout. Perched on the edge of a high glacier carved plateau, Marion’s Lookout offers spectacular views over snow-capped mountains and lakes. Treat yourself to a picnic lunch as you look out over the national park below. Your journey culminates at Crater Lake, where deep blue waters reflect the landscape and sky, making for an incredible photo op.
Your second option is the challenging Dove Lake High Circuit. Starting from Dove Lake, the trail leads through rainforest and past quartzite beaches to Glacier Rock before ascending steeply to Hanson’s Peak (1185m/3888ft). From here, you’ll traverse the saddle to Little Horn (1355m/4446ft), a cone in the Cradle Mountain massif. Your journey culminates with a walk through the Ballroom Forest, an outstanding section of rainforest where mossy tree trunks and pandani palms flank the track as it crosses a small stream.
Your final option is the most arduous but arguably the most rewarding, the Cradle Mountain Summit hike. On a clear day, the rewards of this climb are considerable, with magnificent views as far as the eye can see. You’ll feel on top of the world!
In the evening, indulge in a sumptuous 3-course meal at the lodge’s Highland Restaurant. Recognised as one of Tasmania’s premier dining experiences, the Highland Restaurant features the very best of Tasmanian food and wine.

Your hiking adventure culminates with the beautiful Crater Lake .
Travel the famous Overland Track scouting for wombats to Crater Falls nestled amongst ancient cool temperate rain forest on our ascent to Crater Lake. As you pause at the King Billy Pine boatshed we take in the beauty of this less known wonder before further ascending to the ridge line before tackling Marions Lookout. As you climb the chain assisted steep track remember to occasionally pause to take in the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding area. Once on the top the views are amazing and well worth the effort of the climb. You then slowly descend towards Wombat pool for a rest and snacks, but beware of the currawongs they know a good feed when they see one. On the return track you turn left back to Ronneys Creek searching for more wombats before boarding the vehicle and returning to the lodge.
After the hike, return to the lodge to collect your car. Self-drive to depart.

Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park has a temperate, four-season climate with mild summers (Dec – Feb) and cold winters (Jun Aug), and heavy rainfall throughout the year. Average winter temperatures range from -8.3°C to 0.2°C, so suitable warm clothing is a must.

The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.Force Majeure'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.EvacuationsIn rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.Travel InsuranceIn view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
