Welcome to the Kingdom of Wonder! This morning, your Tour Leader will meet you in Phnom Penh, where you meet other travellers you’ll be sharing the journey with. Get comfortable on your bike, don your sunglasses, and fasten your helmet; we’re rolling out of the city’s hum and buzz into rural Cambodia. Tuk-tuks honk their goodbyes, temple bells chime in the distance, and before you know it, we’re gliding through a patchwork of rice paddies and roadside stalls.
Our path takes us to Oudong, Cambodia’s old royal capital. Back in the day, this place was a big deal — home to kings and queens — and it’s perched on a ridge with sweeping views and a skyline dotted with sacred stupas. We pause and dine Cambodian-style. Fragrant curries, crunchy green mango salad, and smoky grilled pork are on the menu, along with local snacks to keep our energy levels high.
Post-lunch, we kick back in the van for a comfy ride back to Phnom Penh. Our first stop is the Royal Palace, still home to the King, gleaming with golden rooftops and manicured gardens. We shift gears for a powerful visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. Once a high school, then later a prison during the Khmer Rouge era. It’s a moving experience and might bring a few tears to your eyes behind your sunnies.
Afterward, head to your hotel, the Baitong Hotel and Resort, a 4-star urban oasis nestled in the heart of one of the city’s most elegant districts, the BKK1. It embodies an eco-friendly architecture and verdant greenery. Tonight, an included dinner in our hotel gives us the chance to get to know the group better. Then, kick off your trainers and surrender to slumber.
Approx. 64 km (40 miles), 3-5 hours biking
Enjoy a cup of coffee and head out for a short transfer out of Phnom Penh. We hop back on our bikes and pedal through sleepy villages as kids wave, curious cows moo, and we pass roadside stalls piled high with tropical fruit you might not be able to name. We wind our way through Takeo’s lesser-known corners until Phnom Da rises ahead. This rocky hilltop is home to some of the oldest temple ruins in the country. Think 6th-century Khmer architecture, secluded cave shrines, and breathtaking views. Phnom Da might not be on every traveler’s radar, but it should be — it’s ancient, atmospheric, and refreshingly crowd-free.
We stretch our legs and take lots of photos before swapping pedals for wheels and heading south to the laid-back riverside town of Kampot. Famous for its pepper, French colonial architecture, and golden-hour sunsets, Kampot oozes charm from every pastel-hued corner.
Your home for the next two nights is Kampot Sweet Boutique, a 4-star luxury hotel approximately 2 km (a mile) from the main city and close to the river. There’s time to settle in, freshen up, and maybe take a stroll along the riverfront before dinner, which might be a mix of American and traditional cuisines.
Approx. 32 km (20 miles), 2-3 hours biking
Kampot morning equals misty mornings, river breezes, and a breakfast that might involve strong local coffee and a French pastry or two. Hop back in the saddle. We ride through the fertile green heart of this region: Kampot’s legendary pepper plantations. These little green pearls are big-time famous — used in Michelin-starred kitchens and transported home in more than a few carry-ons.
This is unfiltered countryside charm. Quiet red-dirt lanes weave through farmlands and palm groves, with Kampot pepper vines climbing like green ladders up their bamboo poles. We take a break at a local farm to learn why this spice is so special, and probably pick up a pouch or two for people back home. We visit a small joint where we refuel with a spread of local treats. Then, we board a kayak and paddle through the mangroves of Trapeang Sangkae. Drifting through tangled tunnels of green, occasionally stopping to float.
Back in Kampot, the evening is yours to enjoy — maybe a riverside sundowner, relax by the pool or a locally spiced curry. We recommend both.
Approx. 38 km (24 miles), 2-3 hours biking
Wave goodbye to Kampot and cruise down the coast to Kep, a dreamy little seaside town. Once Cambodia’s answer to the French Riviera (true story), it’s now a charming mix of sleepy beaches, deteriorating colonial villages, and some of the best seafood.
We drop our bags at the hotel (hello, ocean view!) and saddle up for an optional ride to Kampong Trach Water Cave. It's a fun little out-and-back with striking limestone karsts, rugged cliffs, and a mysterious cave system. Wander through water-filled chambers, spot shrines tucked into rock crevices, and marvel at the sheer otherworldliness of it all.
We head back to town and refuel with lunch by the sea — fresh, local, and likely involving crab. The afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace. Want to stretch out on the beach? Curious to explore the legendary Kep Crab Market? Or maybe a cold drink on a shady terrace is calling your name?
After that, head to your accommodation for the night, the Veranda Natural Resort situated within the gardens of Kep National Park and featuring Khmer-style wooden bungalows. Visit its open-air restaurant for a delectable dinner featuring Western and Asian dishes.
With a coffee in hand, hop in the van for a transfer to the Ha Tien border. Wave leahaey to the Kingdom of Wonders. From here, it’s a short hop to Ba Chuc, a quiet town that carries the scars of a tragic past — more than 3,000 villagers were killed here during a brutal 1978 Khmer Rouge massacre. Saddled up, we hit the Vietnamese backroads — mirror-flat rice fields and buffalo-dotted paths with no tour buses in sight. Just us and the wide, green world.
We roll into our hotel, the Victoria Nui Sam Lodge, perched on the slopes of Sam Mountain and offering scenic vistas of the Mekong Delta and the Cambodian border. Relax in the pool, gawk at the sunset, and put your camera to work, or find a quiet space, book in hand.
On the menu tonight: a bowl of heartwarming pho, crunchy banh xeo, or spicy curry.
Approx. 56 km (35 miles), 4-6 hours biking
Today, we pedal straight into the jaw-on-the-floor beauty of countryside Vietnam. Rice paddy fields, fishermen casting nets, women in conical hats gliding down narrow waterways, and kids on their way to school in riverboats.
Rewatching Muong Ranh, our wheels pause, and the river takes over. We hop a local ferry across the water to our 4-star hotel — a scenic drift that gives us front-row seats to Mekong's quiet daily theatre. We arrive in Can Tho, our home for the next two nights, situated on the banks of the Can Tho River and featuring colonial-style architecture and lush gardens. Recharge by the pool with a frosty beer or sweet nước thốt nốt (palm sugar juice) before we gather for a delicious dinner of European and Vietnamese cuisines accompanied by breathtaking views of the Hau River.
Approx 50 km (31 miles), 4-6 hours biking
After breakfast, we spin from our hotel to a nearby river ferry, where we set sail. On the other side, there are the green, glorious backroads of the Mekong Delta. This region was once part of the ancient Khmer Empire, and you’ll feel the echoes — temples with curing spires, shrines tucked into jungle greens, and a lively community with nearly 1.5 million people of Cambodian descent still call this area home.
Today’s ride is a sensory dream. Narrow canal paths, lush rice fields, and the island-hopping detours. We cycle past dragon fruit orchards, schoolyards buzzing with laughter, and riverbanks where hammocks swing lazily in the shade. When our legs start rumbling, we roll into a local home for lunch, where the food is as warm as the welcome. Expect fresh Delta flavours, a few new dishes to Google later, and some quality time with the people who make this region so special.
Afterwards, climb aboard the boat for a panoramic 1-hour and 15-minute cruise to Can Tho. Boats drift by, piled high with fruits and veggies; stilted homes dot the diver, and the world slows down, as do we.
This evening, we gather together for our last group dinner, sharing plenty of laughs and memories from your adventures over the past week
Approx 25 km (16 miles), 1-2 hours biking
Rise and shine — we’re not finished yet! This morning, we hop aboard a local boat to Cai Rang, one of Mekong's most famous floating markets. There’s shouting, bargaining, steaming pots of hu tieu noodles bobbing on stoves, and overflowing fresh produce. It’s chaotic. It’s colorful. It’s utterly captivating.
After soaking up the scene (and possibly grabbing a riverboat coffee), we transfer to Vinh Long’s Dinh Khao ferry – the setting of our final ride together. We pedal beneath towering coconut palms, through quiet backroads and clucking chickens, this is the Ben Tre region, also known as Vietnam’s “Land of Coconuts”, where almost everything — drink, snack, shelter — seems to come from a palm tree.
We spin into the lively lanes of Cai Son Market, a local gem where fish flap, herbs spill from baskets, and the smells of grilled street snacks might lure us into one last bite. We have one last hurrah at a nearby local restaurant. Then, we pack up and roll out, trading peaceful valleys for Ho Chi Minh City’s (Saigon’s) vibrant streets. Then say goodbye to your terrific tour leader, top-notch cycling crew, and fellow travelers.
