Welcome to Vietnam! Kick things off in Da Lat, a quick flight from Saigon, where you’ll meet your fellow bikers whom you’ll be sharing the journey with. After a bike fitting and safety briefing, we hit the road, navigating pine forests, kaleidoscopic flower gardens, and some of the region’s finest coffee plantations.
This mountaintop town was once the summer playground of French colonials who couldn’t handle the Saigon heat. Lately, it’s all whimsical villas, misty mormons, and Vietnamese couples taking a romantic getaway – we love it for all that. If you catch a whiff of chocolate and burnt caramel in the air, that’s the local roast working its magic. We recommend a cup or two to help fuel your ride.
By late afternoon, we head to our hotel: Ana Mandara Villas Dalat Resort & Spa. This accommodation is a deluxe heritage resort, famed for its preservation of French colonial architecture, and is packed with amenities to help you relax. Unwind in the serene pool or surrender to a massage at their wellness centre. Dinner, drinks, and a Vietnamese sunset at our favourite local joint are all good ways to celebrate day one. Back at your hotel, sink into bed and let the hill country’s gentle vibes lull you into dreamland.
Approx 60 km (37 miles), 3-5 hours biking
Savor a cup of Da Lat coffee before we head out, making our grand descent from the highlands to the coast. The ride is a glorious mix of swooping descents and breezing climbs along quiet backroads.
All aboard our rest & ride van for the final stretch of our seaside haven on the edge of Nha Trang. You have enough time to flop on the beach, dip your toes in the sea, or sniff out the local craft beer scene. The beer is surprisingly good, with beachy brewpubs pouring everything from hoppy IPAs to fruity summer ales.
Tonight, we relish delectable Vietnamese dishes before you’re released to enjoy a good night’s rest in your 5-star boutique lifestyle resort, the Nha Trang Boma Resort. With its lush tropical surroundings, world-class amenities, and meticulously designed accommodations, every moment here feels like a bespoke escape. Discover serenity as the gentle ocean breeze dances through the palm-fringed pathways, leaving you enchanted by this coastal haven.
Approx 56 km (35 miles), 3-5 hours biking
Following a quick van transfer, we kick off the ride at Vung Ro Bay — a serene stunner nestled between jungle-clad hills and sapphire seas. It’s the type of scene that makes you want to write poetry or bring out your camera to frame the moments.
From here, it’s all coastal cruising — think winding roads, wind in your helmet, and postcard-worthy views around every bend. We bike past fishing boats bobbing in the bay, sleepy villages stirring back to life, and locals expertly balancing everything from chickens to baguettes on their scooters.
We roll past Tuy Hoa and trace the dazzling edge of O Loan Lagoon, a brackish beauty famous for oysters and other slippery delicacies. Then it’s back into our trusty Rest & Ride van for the final stretch to Quy Nhon — a chilled-out beach town where flip-flops outnumber traffic.
As for tonight’s agenda, relish a relaxing time with a drink in hand, deciding what’s for dinner. It could be banh xeo tom nhay, sizzling rice pancakes with “jumping shrimp” fresh off the boat. Or bun cha ca quy nhon, a golden broth swimming with fish cakes and noodles. Or our personal favourite finger food: nem nuong, smoky pork skewers beginning to be wrapped, dipped, and devoured. Finish here and retire to Avani Quy Nhon Resort, your award-winning luxury resort and your home for the night.
Approx 60 km (37 miles), 2-3 hours biking
Wave goodbye to Quy Nhon. Today's route takes us through one of Vietnam’s rising economic zones (read: curious contrasts, and a fascinating glimpse of the future in the making), crossing the Nhon Hoi Bridge. At 3 kilometres (2 miles), it's Vietnam’s longest sea bridge and a total show-off when it comes to ocean views. Cameras out. Chin up. It’s a good one.
From here, encounter secluded bays, rolling dunes, and painted fishing boats rocking gently on the East Sea. We wind along the Thi Nai Peninsula, through pockets of real-deal fishing villages where life still hums at a slower, sea-tuned rhythm. We pedal to Hon Nuoc Lighthouse, a humble little beacon perched above the cliffs with front-row views of the surf and sky.
Then it’s into the van for a 4-hour drive to Hoi An — the storybook town that lives up to the hype — and then to Hotel Royal Hoi An Gallery, your boutique 5-star accommodation with stunning design that elegantly fuses Japanese and Vietnamese cultural influences. With sweeping views of the tranquil Thu Bon River and the charming old town, this elevated sanctuary offers an unforgettable experience. Plush lounges invite you to unwind as the golden hues of a setting sun cast their glow across the horizon. The infinity pool shimmers like liquid silver, seamlessly blending with the skyline, while the rooftop bar serves artisanal cocktails crafted to perfection.
After a delightful breakfast, we will embark on a serene journey down the Thu Bon River, kayaking towards an exclusive local cooking school nestled along its banks. Imagine yourself gliding effortlessly past Hoi An’s enchanting waterfront, the ancient, golden-hued buildings reflecting in the tranquil waters. Soon, you will find yourself navigating through mystical mangrove forests, their intricate roots weaving a natural tapestry, all while you immerse yourself in the breathtaking panorama of the Vietnamese countryside.
Upon docking, a warm welcome awaits as we exchange our paddles for chef’s hats. Here, under the guidance of a culinary expert, you will be initiated into the secrets of Vietnamese cuisine, learning to craft exquisite dishes that tantalise the senses and promise to impress even the most discerning palate. Following our hands-on lesson, we shall indulge in the delectable fruits of our labor, savouring the authentic, vibrant flavours we have created.
The remainder of the afternoon is yours to shape as you desire, a canvas for whatever your heart wishes to paint. Perhaps you'll find solace by the crystalline waters of the hotel pool, allowing the warm sun to kiss your skin. Or maybe you'll feel the gentle pull of Hoi An’s ancient, lantern-lit streets, beckoning you for a leisurely stroll. You might even seize the opportunity to have a bespoke garment tailored—a timeless specialty of this artisan town—or surrender to the blissful indulgence of a well-deserved foot massage. The choice, and the afternoon, is entirely yours.
Approx 40 km (25 miles), 2-3 hours biking
This morning, we cycle across the river, breezing through traditional villages, lush rice fields, and vibrant farms. We’re off to My Son, a hidden gem and UNESCO World Heritage site. The Cham people built these ancient temples, the original rulers before the Vietnamese and Khmer took over. The ruins still stand strong, though they’ve definitely earned their mossy vibe over the centuries, adding a touch of mystery and antiquity.
This evening, find the best place to eat in Hoi An, and if you need help tackling this mission, our local Tour Leader has the inside scoop on all the best spots, from street food that will make your taste buds dance to hidden gems only locals know about.
Approx 50 km (31 miles), 3-5 hours biking
Today, we’re conquering Vietnam’s legendary Hai Van Pass! This 13 miles (21 km) stretch is all about effort and reward, with 6 miles (10 km) of gradual elevation that will have you cruising through the Truong Son Mountain range. The view from the coastline below? Mind-blowing. Then, relish a swooping descent with the wind in your hair and a grin you can’t shake.
Once we make it over the pass, we coast down to Lang Co Bay, a slice of paradise where the lagoon meets the sea. After, we hop into the van for the final ride to Hue. Your final accommodation for the trip, the Pilgrimage Village Hotel, a rustic 5-star resort, is the perfect setting to round off an unforgettable experience.
Tonight, we savour dinner at the Hue Imperial City — a palace of ancient kings, ornate gates, and just the right dose of grandeur. By now, we’re family, so we feast family-style and celebrate our last evening together!
Approx 40 km (25 miles), 2-3 hours biking
After breakfast, we take a gentle spin to the majestic Citadel, the beating heart of Hue’s royal history. Wander ancient walls as our Tour Leader spills tales of emperors, intrigue, and all the drama that built this place.
Then, say goodbye to your terrific Tour Leader and top-notch cycling crew. Or maybe it’s người đến — until we meet again.
