Today, you meet with your tour leaders at 10.30 am at the Hilton Hanoi Opera. Please arrive dressed in your hiking clothes. Bring your luggage, a daypack with your rain gear, and anything else you may want for today's hike (your luggage will be transported to our first night's accommodations).
Arriving in the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, meet up with your trip leaders who kick things off with a trip orientation. Subsequently, we head out for an adventure of Hanoi’s Old Quarter on a traditional cycle. Graced with tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, angelic lakes, and pleasant parks. Home to Hoan Kiem Lake (or Lake of the Returned Sword), and the site of a well-known national legend, the city of Hanoi has earned a reputation as the Paris of the Orient. Come across locals out going about their morning exercise, jogging, bicycling, or practicing tai chi and other martial arts.
Continue to the Old Quarter’s winding streets, each still named for the wares originally sold there (e.g., Bamboo Street, Fish Street, Brass Street). Done with our cycle adventure, we make a stop at a local restaurant where we enjoy a sumptuous lunch with varieties of renowned Vietnamese fusion to select from.
Done with lunch, we continue our exploration on foot to one of our favorite Hanoi neighborhoods. Winding through narrow alleyways, we get a true glimpse into everyday life, passing locals going about their business. We end our walk at Quán Thánh Temple, one of four magnificent temples built to protect the capitol from malevolent spirits.
Afterwards, join our local guide for a quick stop at the Hoa Lo Prison, nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton where American prisoners were held from 1964 to 1973. Explore the city of Hanoi on your own this afternoon, with different shops, galleries, and sites to see. Hanoi recently celebrated its 1,000-year anniversary. It is filled with refreshing bursts of energy between the old and new world. You’ll be surprised by the energy and creativity this traditional destination holds.
For those in pursue of a slower pace, can enjoy a relaxing afternoon back at the Hilton Hanoi Opera, a luxurious neo-baroque-style 5-star hotel, and our home for the night. Located next to Hanoi Opera House, it offers state-of-the-art amenities. Unwind in its hot tub or take a refreshing dip in the outdoor swimming pool.
Tonight, you’ll be treated for dinner at one of our favorite Hanoi restaurants boasting delectable Vietnamese dishes with freshly produced ingredients.
TWO BIKING OPTIONS: Level 1, Approx. 31 km (19 miles), Elevation gain: 91 m (300 ft)Level 2, Approx. 47 km (29 miles), Elevation gain: 122 m (400 ft)
After a hearty breakfast this morning, we leave early for a flight to the World Heritage Site of Hué, Vietnam's ancient capital. Surrounded by hills on three sides, the city of Hué was previously reachable only via the Perfume River. Also surrounded by citadels, high towers, and other fortifications, some of which can still be seen today, one would think it was an impregnable fortress, but despite all of these, Hué was the scene of numerous battles and brutal invasions. Today, it is a popular destination because of the intricate peach blooms in spring, the summer blaze of flame trees along the riverbank, the profusion of lotus blossoms on lakes and wonderful bicycles that’s difficult to find anywhere else in Vietnam.
Upon arriving in Hué, your tour guides fit your bike and give a brief lecture on the various biking techniques and safety measures there are before setting off to explore this stunning area beside a picturesque lagoon, past magnificent temples, and through small fishing villages hugging the South China Sea.
Today’s adventure comes to an end at the Pilgrimage Village, our peaceful abode for the next two nights, where you're welcome to relax for the afternoon. Set amidst lush green gardens and lily ponds, soak in the serenity in your ensuite rooms with garden or countryside views. A sanctuary for the mind, body and spirit; unwind by the pool or engage in yoga, tai chi or spa treatments
Tonight, our local friend welcomes us into his home, a typical Mandarin-style abode built at the turn of the 20th century. We get to know about our host who has lots of experiences, interests, and Vietnam’s history to share. Afterwards, we sit down for a delightful candlelit dinner among his lotus ponds and hanging-orchid gardens which make for a wonderfully Vietnamese experience!
Note: Vietnam Airlines often changes schedules without warning. We will do everything in our capabilities to secure a morning flight. In case of any change, we may have to leave Hanoi earlier in the morning or later in the day.
THREE BIKING OPTIONS:Level 1, Approx. 31 km (19 miles), Elevation gain: 213 m (700 ft)Level 2, Approx. 43 km (27 miles), Elevation gain: 274 m (900 ft)Level 3, Approx. 56 km (35 miles), Elevation gain: 274 m (900 ft)
After a delightful breakfast, hop on your bike and join the throngs of scooters and bicycles crossing the bridge above the Perfume River, while creating unforgettable memories along the way. Cycle on a calm and slow pace as you take in the many facets of contemporary Vietnamese life, from the hardscrabble simplicity of rural villages to the excess and grandeur of the lavish mausoleums of Vietnam’s imperial rulers. Relish the refreshing scent of fragrant pine forests, the magic of crossing the Perfume River by dragon boat, and the electric hustle and bustle of Hué's large urban centre.
We make a stop at Khai Dinh Mausoleum which is an intriguing tomb that blends Asian and European new Gothic styles creating a true and unique Vietnamese energy. After savouring a delicious lunch, cycle back to the hotel and relax by the pool or treat yourself to a restorative spa session.
Better still, if you wish to continue after freshening up, join us for a tour of the 19th-century Royal Citadel of Hué, responsible for protecting the royals from both invaders and the rival armies of aspiring feudal lords from the 13th to the 17th century, when Hué was the capital of imperial Vietnam.
Even though much of the citadel was destroyed during the Tet Offensive in 1968, there are remains for you to explore. With some of the adjacent complexes, including the Royal Theatre, a library, a temple honouring the Nguyen emperors, and a temple dedicated to the queens and princesses restored by UNESCO, these are sites to explore and learn about the rich history of the city.
Gather tonight for a mouth-watering classic Vietnamese cuisine perfectly showcasing the flavours of Hué at our remarkable hotel restaurant.

We begin today's experience with a shuttle south toward the base of Hai Van Pass. Bike over the pass or grab an air-conditioned lift to the top. Either way, it's an impressive ride, made possible only recently by the new tunnel that diverts most traffic through the mountain.
Head down into the industrial port city of Danang, although not as charming as other cities but certainly colourful with its fleet of squid-fishing boats. Bask in the astonishing sceneries of Danang and the coast as you cycle over one of the country’s newly constructed suspension bridges. Spin along Danang Harbour to the base of one of Vietnam's largest statues of Quan M, often referred to as the female Buddha, followed by lunch at a seaside restaurant overlooking the bay.
Travel to our riverside retreat and home for the next two nights, the Little Riverside Hoi An, a luxury resort ideally located on the banks of Thu Bon River in the heart of the ancient town of Hoi An. One of Vietnam’s oldest towns, and a World Heritage Site, Hoi An features exceptionally preserved 15th to 19th-century buildings, bridges, and pagodas.
Come across houses built using rare wood with lacquered boards and ornamental panels of engraved traditional Chinese characters. Stroll through Hoi An narrow streets, markets, and art galleries, pick out from the numerous restaurants there is and treat your palates to different local dishes all by yourself, and endeavour to try out the popular caul au soup (beef broth with shrimp and pork, topped with crunchy onions, sesame seeds, and croutons).
TWO BIKING OPTIONS:Level 2, Approx. 40 km (25 miles), Elevation gain: 152 m (500 ft)Level 3, Approx. 48 km (30 miles), Elevation gain: 183 m (600 ft)
Just across the river from Hoi An lies a series of islands, ideal for two-wheeled exploration, and our starting point for today’s ride. Go on a ride on your bicycle past rice paddies and through villages, and come across curious locals who wonder why foreigners would rather ride bicycles other than scooters. Relish the peaceful and quiet country life of the Vietnamese as you cycle along.
Return to Hoi An through the Thu Bon river via our private ferry. Getting back on dry land, complete the loop to the hotel, passing a 400-year-old Japanese bridge, the local market, and hundreds of palms. You may want to order the day's fresh catch at a local seafood restaurant, where we stop for lunch. Otherwise, you're welcome to return to the hotel for lunch on your own or choose from one of the many local eateries in Hoi An.
If you wish to explore more of Hoi An, there are lots of things worth doing, seeing, and eating as you uncover the city’s stores, old homes, and markets. You can also choose to relax and unwind at the hotel. Take a dip in the pool of the hotel, treat yourself to a therapeutic spa session. Tonight, we head into town for a magnificent interactive cooking class with a popular local chef at Ms. Vy’s.
Level 1, Approx. 23 km (14 miles), Elevation gain: 30 m (100 ft)
Done with a hearty breakfast this morning, we embark on one of our favourite local rides. Cycle through Vietnam past scenic rice paddies, vibrant small villages, scattered pagodas, and narrow country roads without a lot of traffic, or you can take things slowly by staying back at the hotel.
Towards noon, we fly to Siem Reap, Cambodia, home to the World Heritage Site of Angkor, the country’s monumental ancient capital. Built between the 9th and 13th centuries by the Khmer, you will surely be blown away by its lofty spires, giant carved images, and beautiful bas reliefs. Known to be a hotbed of tourism-related development, Siem Reap has seen a lot of people visiting to explore the incredible ruins of Angkor. Come across fine galleries, restaurants, and a host of modern conveniences as well as a fascinating culture found in the once quiet town.
Travel to our home for the next two nights, Shinta Mani Shack, a chic boutique hotel created by acclaimed architect Bill Bensley and located in the tranquil and leafy surroundings of Siem Reap's French Quarter. Head out to the hotel spa, a sanctuary of serenity, or take a dip in the pool before sitting down to dinner.
Note: Our Vietnam Airlines flight to Siem Reap may make a short stop in Ho Chi Minh (Saigon). We’ll use a direct route to Siem Reap when possible, but it may be cancelled and it won’t always be available. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
TWO BIKING OPTIONS: Level 1, Approx. 35 km (22 miles), Elevation gain: 61 m (200 ft)Level 2, Approx. 47 km (29 miles), Elevation gain: 91 m (300 ft)
Siem Reap is a magnificent destination brimming with stark contrasts. Prepare to be wowed by breathtaking ruins of a once-powerful empire, penurious small villages recovering from the Khmer Rouge past rule and the bustling crowds of a quickly-developing Siem Reap.
Get a feel for the “real” Cambodia as we take the challenging less travelled roads. Today’s ride takes us to several fascinating temples including Ta Prohm and Bayon. We shuttle a short distance from Siem Reap to the Ta Prohm complex, a pristine destination. A number of the enormous strangler fig roots that split the temple sculptures now help hold the complex together.
After our tour, your bike is fitted by your Trip Leaders, afterwards, we roll along quiet dirt roads lined with rural villages that are connected by a few main thoroughfares. Be prepared for an enthusiastic welcome as the locals, especially kids are curious as they rarely see tourists.
Take a break from all of the exploration and enjoy a delectable home-cooked lunch in the home of our local friend. Refueled, continue on your bike to Bayon, behold its massive smiling stone faces and impressive bas-reliefs. Partake in a traditional water blessing along the way, a solemn ritual undertaken to bring good luck.
Head back to the hotel via shuttle, with an option to visit Wat Thmey, a powerful “killing field” along the way. Although a sad experience, this is a moving way to learn about the Khmer Rouge and the genocide that devastated Cambodia during the 1970s.
Back at the hotel, relax and unwind with numerous amenities available. Rejuvenate at the hotel spa, soak in the serenity by its spacious lounge areas or lounge by the pool. You can also choose to take a walk to central Siem Reap and new galleries for local crafts and fine art. For our last night together, we will be treating our taste buds to a mouthwatering Khmer cuisine.
Level 1, Approx. 21 km (13 miles), Elevation gain: minimal
Begin the day with an early shuttle to Angkor Wat. While there, we go for a walk through the temple grounds with our local friend and guide. Witness this spectacular place come to life as you hear about the ruins and history of Cambodia while relishing the illumination of the ancient carvings from the morning sun. Let it soak in before cycling along with breathtaking scenes, and ruins, all the way back to Shinta Mani Shack for a farewell brunch. Done with brunch, say your hearty goodbyes, and board a shuttle for the Siem Reap airport.

HanoiHanoi can often be much cooler than the rest of our trip, especially in November and December, with warmer weather during the months of January through April. Central Vietnam is almost always hot and humid with rainfall typical in November and sometimes in December. Because the seasonal showers can oftentimes break the heat and offer relief, our trips are not interrupted due to weather. However, we may need to amend our biking routes accordingly. Please be prepared for wet conditions.
CambodiaSiem Reap, Cambodia, you may expect to find warm weather year-round. As a result, our trip has been designed to incorporate more morning rides to escape the afternoon heat and humidity.
Lightweight clothing is suitable for Vietnam and Cambodia's tropical (often humid) daytime climate; however, a fleece jacket or warm sweater and long pants are essential for the cooler mornings and evenings in the north. Keep in mind that rain is always possible; in Vietnam, weather is especially unpredictable.
