Drive two hour east of Hobart and you’ll discover a place that defies comprehension- a near mythic landscape of rugged capes and towering sea cliffs. The legendary Three Capes Walk explores the natural beauty of the Tasman Peninsula and is famous for its three spectacular capes - Cape Raoul, Cape, Hauy and Cape Pillar. The track see’s you trekking amongst 190 million year old sea cliffs boasting some of the highest dolerite columns in the Southern Hemisphere and a dramatic coastline of caves and towering sea stacks.
Walking the Three Capes Track in Tasmania is about as special as coastal walks come. It is a great walk for beginners looking to commence their wilderness journey in Tasmania. If you do make your way down to Tassie to enjoy the walk, be sure to allow for a few days following the walk to explore the East Coast….and before you know it, you’ve seen so much of what Tassie has to offer! The Three Capes Sea And Land Escape is a great way to inspire your trip here. It blends both a cruise and walk experiencing Three Capes in comfort and style. Or perhaps a week's escape hiking the Best of Tasmania East Coast may be your drawcard.

There are wonderful ways to experience this cliff-hugging wilderness whether independently or guided. But the Three Capes Lodge Walk is perhaps the most luxurious way to experience the rugged track in all its glory. Simply put it is Three Capes, two lodges and one great walk! A guided multi 4 day hike, see’s you covering 46km, grading from easy to moderate.
Day One: the experience begins with a memorable boat voyage across to Denman’s Cove to start the track. A gentle 2hrs, 6km through coastal woodland, takes you onwards to Crescent Bay Lodge, sitting loftily with views across to Cape Raoul.
Day Two: a moderate 11km and 5 hours see’s you conquering the summit of Arthurs peak, 300 metres above sea level, making your way to Cape Pillar Lodge.
Day Three: the most adventurous day of your journey where sea cliffs plunge beneath your feet. A moderate 18 km and 6 hours takes you through silver peppermint forest out to the challenge of saling the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere of Cape Pillar and the infamous Blade! The views here have to be seen to be believed.
Day Four: those with plenty of energy to spare can walk a moderately graded 13km and 6 hours which is by far the hardest day of the walk with many steep stairs to climb first thing in the morning. As well as a handful more at the end of the day as you make your way out to the tip of Cape Hauy. You'll be mind blown to the staggering views of the famous 'Candlestick and 'Totem Pole sea stacks. Others can forego this part and choose a direct route to Fortescue Bay and relax on its cool white sands.
Nothing is more appealing than unlacing the hiking boots after a challenging day out on the tracks only to unwind in private luxury eco lodges and be wined and dined by Tassie’s finest. How about a massage or an invigorating bath while dinner is being prepared? Read on as we list why we adore the Three Capes Lodge Walk experience.
