This moderate graded walk traverses varied terrain through natural landscapes including ancient cliffs, fragrant forest, colourful heathlands, white sanded beach, and bronzed moorlands. Cruising from Port Arthur to set off your journey, you'll have opportunities to spot whales, dolphins or fur seals while enjoying the fresh salty air. Walk side by side up mosaic stone steps taking in exhilarating clifftop outlooks on Cape Pillar, and Cape Hauy. Revel in the fragrant eucalypt forests and stop at crystal clear waters of Crescent Bay for a dip. Throughout the hike, you will experience some challenging uphill and downhill sections and traverse some rocky terrain, including climbing Arthurs Peak (300m) and Mount Fortescue (490m) and the challenge of scaling The Blade at Cape Pillar.
You will have exclusive use of the only private Lodge accommodation along the track. The two lodges are architecturally designed to sit lightly within the environment with stunning views. The Lodges do not forego creature comforts such as hot showers, with plenty of lounge areas and a dedicated relaxation area at Munro Lodge. There is also a Relaxation Pavilion at Cape Pillar Lodge offering Li'Tya treatments, for a little rejuvenation & healing!
All meals are included for the duration of the walk as well as transfers to and from Hobart. Small groups of 14 walkers are hosted by two staff. All staff are highly experienced and knowledgeable. You need to carry a multiday pack for the walk.

In Denman's Cove, you'll enjoy your lunch with local produce, then set off a gentle walk through coastal eucalypt woodland and coastal heath to the rocky refuge of Surveyors Cove. At this point, if the Southern Ocean begs, head for a dip before a gradual incline up to the lodge.

Today is a day of contrasts.
Wake to the silence of Crescent Lodge, peppered with the crackling of a cooked breakfast. From here, head due south with views across Safety Cove and Maingon Bay to Bruny Island. Revel in the fragrant eucalypt forests, be captivated by the colourful heathlands, and stride across bronzed moorlands. Climbing Arthurs Peak, 300 metres above sea level, gives staggering views across sparkling Crescent Bay and beyond to Cape Raoul. White Bellied Sea Eagles soar in the thermal currents.
Then take an easy descent from the forested slopes of Crescent Mountain to windswept Ellarwey Valley. Feel the space around you and enjoy the remoteness - nothing between you and Antarctica. Pelagic seabirds are plenty here - albatross, petrels and gannets.
Following lunch, skirt the edge of Tornado Ridge before heading south toward Cape Pillar Lodge. You'll stay here or the next two nights. There is a massage, facial or relaxation bath on offer at Cape Pillar Lodge.
Walking distance: 18 km, approx. 6 hours walking (Moderate to Hard Grade).
Sea cliffs plunge beneath your feet. This is the most adventurous day of your journey. Today you'll walk through silver gum forest (Eucalyptus Tenuiramis), a species endemic to the area, out to the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere. There's little wonder Cape Pillar has been afforded other names – Hurricane Heath and Desolation Gully. Taking on the challenge of scaling The Blade at Cape Pilla is a must, with staggering views across to Tasman Island.
Enjoy your lunch at Chasm Lookout – with Tasman Island's weathered lighthouse in sight. It's then a direct return journey home to Cape Pillar where the relaxation pavilion, three-course goodness and ocean views await. Unlace the boots, read a book with sea breeze in your toes.
Those with a penchant for pampering can forego today's walk and spend the day at Munro Lodge. Enjoy one of the relaxing treatments ranging from 45 minutes to a splendid three hours and immerse yourself in the enchanting surrounds (additional charges apply).
Walking distance: 13 km, approx. 6 hours walking (Moderate Grade). Optional: Cape Hauy side trip, Extra 4km (2hrs)
After hearty breakfast, cross Retakunna Creek (local indigenous dialect for creaking trees) en route to a patch of rainforest. Breathe it in – lush mosses, ferns and vibrant greens. Next mission is the peninsula's highest peak, Mount Fortescue, climbing some 490 metres above sea level. Enjoy lunch with leafy-framed ocean views overlooking The Monument.
Take the side trip and enjoy the majesty of Cape Hauy - or simply remain with the group for a final cliff-walk descent onto the cool white sands of Fortescue Bay. This is your chance to drop the pack and sink your toes in pristine sands or perhaps take a celebratory dive into the crystal clear waves.
The group will arrive back into Hobart at approximately 5.45pm for some celebratory bubbles with a Hobart airport drop off between 5.15pm - 5.30pm.

The Tasman peninsula has a temperate, maritime climate with smaller daily and annual temperature ranges than continental regions. The municipality receives an average of around 900 mm of rainfall a year with a weak seasonal cycle (minimum in February, maximum in June). Rainfall can come from westerly cold fronts, but a large proportion of the rainfall comes from easterly and northeasterly systems such as cutoff lows.
