Stage 3 is defined by a significant change in elevation and landscape as you cross the main Alpine ridge. The journey includes the Tauernschleuse car train, followed by a long and rewarding descent.

Your day begins not on the saddle, but aboard the Tauernschleuse train shuttle in Böckstein, just south of Bad Gastein. This essential 11-minute train journey carries you and your bicycle through the heart of the Tauern Alps to Mallnitz. This ingenious transfer allows you to bypass the most challenging high-alpine terrain, emerging on the sunny southern side of the mountains, ready to begin your descent into Carinthia.

The Descent into the Möll Valley: From Mallnitz, situated at 1,191 metres, the route begins with a breathtaking descent along the River Möll. The path winds gracefully downhill, offering sweeping views of the Hohe Tauern National Park. You will pass through the charming village of Obervellach, a market town with a beautifully preserved historic centre. This section of the ride is exhilarating, as you effortlessly cover ground while enveloped by the majestic alpine scenery.
The Meeting of Rivers at Möllbrück: As you continue your journey, the path levels out, providing a gentle ride through bucolic Carinthian countryside. The next significant waypoint is the village of Möllbrücke, which translates to "Möll Bridge." It is here that the Möll river, your companion since Mallnitz, merges with the mighty River Drau. From this point, you will join the world-class Drau Cycle Path (Drauradweg), following its well-marked and tranquil route eastward.
The final stretch of Stage 3 guides you along the serene banks of the River Drau. This part of the ride is exceptionally peaceful and flat, allowing you to pedal at a relaxed pace while soaking in the idyllic surroundings.
