Australia On Foot

Australia’s vast and diverse landscape offers unlimited opportunities for exploration.  An adventure on foot, immersed in the iconic scenery and amongst unique flora and fauna is the ideal way to absorb the sights and sounds of this incredible land.

From one-day walks out of one of Australia’s capital cities to multi-day itineraries along dramatic coastlines, there are walks to suit every age and ability.

Manly to Spit Bridge Walk, Sydney NSW

Weaving through a mix of lush bushland and scenic harbourside trails, the famous 10km Manly to Spit Bridge Coastal Walk is a series of short tracks passing some of North Sydney's stunning beaches, bays and inlets. The walk takes around 3-4 hours to complete, depending on your level of fitness. The track offers spectacular views across Sydney Harbour providing photo opportunities at every turn, including at historic sites such as Grotto Point Lighthouse and through the Sydney Harbour National Park.

Twelve Apostles Walk, Victoria

This popular and moderately challenging four-day walk takes in a variety of landscapes on foot from cool-climate rainforest and remote beaches to rugged clifftops, and finishes with the incredible view from above on a Twelve Apostles scenic helicopter flight.

Operating between September and May, this 55km section of the Great Ocean trail winds through the Great Otway National Park and the Port Campbell National Park.  The walk is alive with wildlife: you’ll witness birds, fur seals, wallabies, koalas, and many plant species at home in this special location.  In groups of a maximum of twelve hikers, you will be led by a specialist guide who will teach about the history of this incredible coastline as well as stories of the first Australians and the British convicts transported here on ships over 200 years ago. Shipwrecks from this time are scattered just off the coast – a bleak monument to the lives that were lost in the perilous journey to these shores.

Accommodation is at a privately owned and operated hiking lodge, located at Johanna Beach, the halfway point of the trail. Every night, walkers return to stay in their private villas with ensuite bathroom and all the comforts of luxury lodging.  Exceptional food, wine and service are all part of the package.  Meals are prepared by an internationally trained chef who can cater for individual requirements.

Cape to Cape Track, Margaret River, Western Australia

The longest and most famous track in the Margaret River region is the Cape to Cape Track. The entire track totals 140 kilometres (a five to six day walk) crossing the ridges and beaches of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park along the coast from Cape Naturaliste, Dunsborough to Cape Leeuwin, Augusta and takes in incredible views of the Indian Ocean and, in spring, landscapes awash with the region’s famous wildflowers.

The track can be undertaken in one go, however smaller sections are easily accessed and many itineraries focus solely on these.  Also, parts of the track are boardwalk or hard paved to allow access for all levels of fitness and abilities including those using wheelchairs and prams.

The four day Margaret River Cape to Cape walk by Walk into Luxury is a fully guided small group walk which combines the best walking on the Cape to Cape track with once in a lifetime food and wine experiences and ultra-luxury accommodation.

In addition to the guided hiking, this premium itinerary features lunch with matched wines at an award winning winery, private chef dinner showcasing local produce with a local winemaker on hand to present their wines, sunset clifftop drinks and a very special private didgeridoo performance with one of the region’s traditional owners.

Overland Track, Tasmania

The Overland Track is one of Australia's most famous hiking tracks, situated in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania.  Every year more than eight thousand walkers complete the track which totals 65km (or 82km with an extension along Lake St Clair) and is usually completed in five or six days. The track winds through terrain ranging from sheer mountains, temperate rainforest, wild rivers and alpine plains all in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

There are also several alternative side tracks, including to the summits of Cradle Mountain and Mount Ossa, the tallest mountain in Tasmania.

The Cradle Mountain Huts Walk is a six-day, five-night walk. The itinerary includes optional side trips to Mount Ossa, Lake Will and a number of lookouts and waterfalls.

Each day, expect to walk between 7-12km (excluding side trips) over varied terrain including button grass plains, rainforests, alpine meadows and open moorland. Wildlife encountered along the way might include wombats, paddymelons, echidnas, the famous Tasmanian Devil and an array of birdlife.
