Welcome to Wyndham, Western Australia’s most northerly town! Spend the day exploring at your leisure and checking out some of the must-see attractions including Five Rivers Lookout, Crocodile Lookout and the iconic Big Crocodile.
At 5:00pm, head down to Wyndham Jetty where the crew will welcome you aboard MV Great Escape with canapes and drinks. Once everyone is settled in, set off for the spectacular Berkeley River, home to waterfalls, freshwater pools, pockets of rainforest and abundant wildlife activity.
Enjoy a delicious 3-course dinner enroute before taking the rest of the evening to familiarise yourself with the ship and settle into your cabin.
Spend the day exploring the Berkeley River your way. Look out for crocodiles, eagles and rock wallabies on a nature walk. Swim in or sunbake around a freshwater pool. Try your hand at fishing for the legendary Barramundi. Or, simply relax and unwind on deck or in your cabin.
After a picnic lunch, cruise back down the river and anchor just outside the mouth for the late afternoon. Here, freshwater meets saltwater to create swimming holes with rapids and plenty of opportunities for estuary fishing.
Cruise to the secluded Atlantis Bay and enjoy a short walk to a tranquil waterhole, or a leisurely stroll along the beach. If you’re lucky, you’ll see beautiful wildflowers along the way.
After, head towards Cape Whiskey and Whiskey Creek where you can go fishing on the low tide.
In the afternoon, continue on to the King George River, home to the spectacular King George Falls.
Prepare to be wowed by the majesty of Mother Nature! Cruise down between 2,000-million-year-old red sandstone cliffs and listen out for the mighty King George Falls, which you will hear long before they come into view. The ship will drive right up to the 100-metre twin waterfalls – you can take a shower right on the bow of the boat!
After, spend the rest of the day trekking, exploring and enjoying all the fantastic scenery the King George River has to offer. Wander among soaring red gorges, ancient sandstone cliffs and the paradise of hundreds of tiny islands and secluded beaches known as the Buccaneer Archipelago.
Today is an especially good day to make use of the onboard helicopter! A scenic flight over this stunning landscape will be etched in your memory for years to come.
Earn your keep with a fishing excursion to organise the day’s catch. You will target a variety of species here including giant trevally, queenfish, mackerel and tuna. There are a few places to pick up mangrove jack, bluebone and fingermark too.
After, cool off with a swim before trekking to the ancient and mysterious Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw) rock art galleries. Dating back over 17,000 years (that’s over 10,000 years before Egyptian hieroglyphics), these incredibly sophisticated rock art paintings depict graceful human figures engaged in display or hunt. The figures are beautifully painted, adorned with tassels, hair ornaments and even clothing. Some of the paintings are small, others up to five metres long and three metres high.
Back on the boat, enjoy a sumptuous fresh lunch as you cruise into the cove to explore a crashed World War II DC3 plane.
In the evening, cruise around Cape Bougainville to the mighty Mitchell River.
Cruise the magnificent Mitchell River, which has carved a realm of spellbinding gorges and waterfalls into the blocky, layered sandstone of Mitchell Plateau. If you haven’t caught a Barramundi yet, today is your chance – this river is the perfect hunting ground!
After lunch, head off to Surveyors Creek, a pretty little gorge about halfway down the river where you can enjoy a swim in a huge waterhole.
In the evening, anchor on the river ahead of the next morning’s transfers.
Say farewell to the crew and prepare to tick off a bucket list item: the magnificent Mitchell Falls. Board a scenic helicopter flight for the ultimate bird’s eye view of this iconic four-tiered waterfall. Look down and you will see sheer sunburnt cliffs and millions of litres of water cascading from one emerald green pool to the next.
The helicopter will drop you off at the Mitchell Airstrip where you will be greeted by a fixed-wing aircraft to fly you back to Kununurra airport to commence your onward journey.

The Kimberley has two distinct seasons: wet season (December to March) and dry season (April to November). During ‘the Wet’ most 4WD roads and National Parks are closed. As such, this tour operates during ‘the Dry’ with daytime temperatures ranging from 28-30-degrees Celsius. Be aware, however, that the region can get surprisingly cold overnight.
Note: In September and October, as ‘the Wet’ approaches, temperatures increase accordingly, and it can be very hot during the day. It is essential you are prepared for this.
As this itinerary involves a transfer via light aircraft and helicopter, there is a strict 10-kilogram luggage allowance per passenger. Please note, the ship provides a complimentary laundry service onboard. If you are embarking on an extended holiday and have luggage in addition to your 10kg cruise baggage the Guest Relations Coordinator will happily arrange storage for the duration of your cruise.
