Departing from Broome, Western Australia, start your adventure with a transfer to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, 2.5-hours’ drive north on the Dampier Peninsula. On arrival, you will be transferred to Kimberley Quest II, where you will be welcomed aboard by your captain and crew.
Enjoy a gourmet Kimberley-style lunch courtesy of the onboard chef as you cross King Sound and cruise through the thousand islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago with its small embayments and secluded sandy white beaches. Cool off with a refreshing swim in one of the many Kimberley freshwater pools, followed by a scenic tender excursion.
In the evening, sit back and watch the sun set red, yellow and purple over one of the oldest landscapes in the world.
Anchor in Talbot Bay and spend the morning experiencing the majesty of Horizontal Falls. Described by David Attenborough as ‘one of the greatest natural wonders of the world’, this an astonishing ‘sideways’ waterfall is the result of fast-moving tidal currents squeezing through two narrow gorges of the McLarty Range. Getting up close to the falls and riding the rapids in a tender is undoubtedly a highlight of this 4-day expedition.
While in the area, pay a visit to Cyclone Creek, where you can see evidence of massive geological forces in the rock formations. Then, head over to Dugong Bay for a refreshing swim in one of the freshwater pools.
In the afternoon, try your hand at fishing around the Kingfisher Islands. If you’re lucky, you might reel in Giant Trevally, Golden Snapper, mackerel, queenfish or tuna, all of which can be cooked up for an incredibly fresh – and tasty – dinner!
This morning, cruise towards Montgomery Reef, the world’s largest inshore reef covering more than 300-square-kilometres. An astonishing marine spectacle, Montgomery Reef is transformed by some of the biggest tidal changes on Earth. When the tide falls, often over 8-metres, the coral reef appears to rise from the ocean in a torrent of cascading water and a plethora of marine life makes its escape. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, dugongs, saltwater crocodiles and six species of threatened marine turtles. The marine park is also home to the Southern Hemisphere’s most important humpback whale nursery.
In the afternoon, head over to Strickland Bay, ranked in the top 50 breaks in the world. It’s a popular spot for surfing and boogie-boarding for locals and tourists alike. Visit old pearlers graves and join your guides in search of the elusive Barramundi and Threadfin Salmon.
Cap off your incredible adventure with a visit to the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, a working pearl farm that has been in the Brown Family for more than 70 years. Join a tour of the farm and learn about Western Australia’s fascinating pearling history. At the end of the tour, you have a rare opportunity to purchase pearls direct from the waters in which they were farmed.
Finally, it’s time to say farewell. An included transfer takes you back to Broome and to your chosen accommodation.
NOTE: This is only a suggested itinerary. The remote Kimberley region experiences large tidal movements which can affect the itinerary. The itinerary may need to be varied this from time to time, however, no matter the tides, the expedition cruise would always visit the spectacular icons of this region. There will be plenty of land and sightseeing excursions to many untouched places, and opportunities to catch fresh fish for the table. Please note scenic helicopter flights are available on request.

The Kimberley has two distinct seasons: wet season (December to March) and dry season (April to November). During ‘the Wet’ most 4WD roads and National Parks are closed. As such, this tour operates during ‘the Dry’ with daytime temperatures ranging from 28-30-degrees Celsius. Be aware, however, that the region can get surprisingly cold overnight.
Note: In September and October, as ‘the Wet’ approaches, temperatures increase accordingly, and it can be very hot during the day. It is essential you are prepared for this.
