Your tour departs from Queenstown. You will be picked up from your Queenstown accommodation and commence four day hikes based in Te Anau. You hike to Lake Marian amongst forest and alpine scenery. You hike the famous Kepler Track admiring stunning lake vistas. The track winds past the alpine grassland of the Jackson Peaks, mountains, native forest, glacier-carved valleys and waterfalls. Plenty of native birds can be spotted as you wind through mossy beech forests. You will also hike the Milford Track, described as "the Finest Walk in the World" - a must when visiting the region. Walk through ancient temperate rainforest surrounded by an array of ferns, mosses and lichens in vibrant shades of green leads to Giant Gate Waterfall. The Routeburn Track offers spectacular alpine views and flowers. The soaring peaks, enormous valleys, waterfalls, and alpine lakes are home to cheeky kea, the world's only alpine parrot, as well as tomtits, robins and fantails.
On Day 4, you will board your Milford Sound Overnight Cruise and enjoy the ultimate Milford Sound experience. When all the tourists have left at dusk, the fiord transforms into a peaceful scene of dramatic landscape. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere and get a sense of the serenity that the fiord offers. You'll have many opportunities for wildlife spotting such as penguins, seals and dolphins as well as learning about the history and natural environment of the fiord.
