Just a few kilometres off Tasmania's east coast, Maria Island is 100% national park with a population of just two park rangers and their one car. This World Heritage Listed island is a sanctuary, and a Noah's Ark for rare Tasmanian birds and animals including an introduced population of disease-free Tasmanian devils.
The Maria Island Walk is an adventure led by warm, friendly and knowledgeable local guides. The food is fresh and local, the wine is Tasmania's best, and a comfortable bed each night awaits. The walk itself is easy to moderate with options to add challenge as desired.

Guests stay overnight in two delightful wilderness campsites, both a stone's throw away from pristine, white-sand beaches. These beaches are the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine, enjoy a barefoot stroll exploring for rare shells, or a swim in the turquoise waters that grace the island's shores.
On the final night, guests of the Maria Island Walk stay in a heritage house in Darlington, a UNESCO World Heritage site nestled on the northern tip of the island. Once a busting penal settlement with over 600 convicts, Darlington is now home to a medley of well-preserved historical buildings. It's also an excellent place to see wombats!
The walks operates between the months of October to April. If you wish to walk between the months of June to August, we offer a 3 day Maria Island Winter Escape.

We collect you in Hobart and take you to our city base where you’ll meet the guides, other guests, collect your light packs and be given a briefing. Then the adventure begins exploring the magnificence of Maria island.
You arrive at the historic coastal town of Triabunna. Our boat will take you to Maria Island through the sparkling waters of Mercury Passage to the isthmus of Maria Island. You will set foot on a pristine, untouched beach, exactly as explorers did years earlier. Here you enjoy lunch overlooking the crystal azure waters of Shoal Bay before taking a walk to the tranquil Casuarina Beach camp. That afternoon explore the trail through the tall eucalypt forest down to the spectacular Haunted Bay.
That evening, after a fine Tasmanian gourmet dinner, stroll along the beach at sunset with a glass of wine, delighting in the day you’ve had and excited by what lies ahead.
Wake up to the busy chattering of the wattle birds and, from the comfort of your bed, watch the morning sun sparkle through the forest. This is one of the truly great guided walks of Australia! After a delicious breakfast, it’s time to start your journey along five beautiful beaches. Watch dolphins play in the surf and sea eagles soaring overhead as you walk past the carpet of exotic shells lining the water’s edge. By late afternoon you arrive at White Gums camp for a refreshing swim. After the perfect day, you can relax with your fellow walkers, before enjoying a candlelit dinner of the finest Tasmanian food and wine.
Today the guides will take you inland to the heart of the Island to discover the rich greens of the grand forests. You’ll wander through the world’s largest stand of giant Tasmanian blue gums and can choose to climb the peaks of Mt Maria or Bishop and Clerk. It's a 700 metres climb through rare "cloud" rain forests. As you can imagine, the views are simply breathtaking. That evening you arrive at Tasmanian's fascinating World Heritage listed settlement of Darlington where you'll stay at the elegant colonial Bernacchi House and enjoy a final night banquet with fine wine and conversation.

We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.Travel InsuranceIn view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
