Walking distance: 4 km (approx. 2 hours walking, easy grade).
Depart Melbourne 7.45am. Our point of departure in Melbourne is from outside the National Gallery of Victoria on St Kilda Roadjust near the large pools and fountains at the entrance to the gallery. Please arrive here at 7.30am for a 7.45am departure.
After leaving Melbourne we head to Euroa for morning tea (provided by your field guides). At Bright we stop for lunch and stretch our legs.
Continuing on we pass through Bright and then head to our accommodation in Falls Creek and check in before getting ready for our afternoon walk to Ropers Lookout.
This is an easy 2 hour return walk which rewards guests with superb alpine views. We return to our lodge in Falls Creek in the late afternoon to unpack and enjoy some pre dinner nibbles.
Tonight you will enjoy a lovely two-course meal prepared by your guides.
Walking distance: 12-16km (approx. 7 hours walking, easy to moderate grade).
After breakfast and lunch making we prepare for our day’s walk exploring the famous High Country cattlemen’s huts.
But to get things started, depending on cloud cover, we are likely to leave our day packs in the coach and walk up to Mount Cope.
This is a short hike of around 3 kilometres but the view is just wonderful and captures the area you are exploring so perfectly.
The main walk of the day sees us heading out to visit several High Country Huts, including Kelly’s and Fitzgeralds.
We explore the huts and see some old cattleyards on the way. We aim to have lunch at Fitzgerald Hut for lunch where our guides will talk about the huts and cattle in the High Country.
After lunch we walk back the Kelly Track to Big River Fire Track and here guests can decide if they would like to call it a day, where they can return to the vehicle. For those who would like to continue, we walk along the Alpine Walking Track to Langford Aqueduct track which is quite lovely and peaceful.
We will then head back to our accommodation for pre-dinner nibbles. Tonight’s dinner is a fabulous 2-course meal prepared by your guides.
Walking distance: 12-15 km (approx. 6 hours walking, moderate grade).
After breakfast and lunch making we prepare for our 12-15km walk.
Today’s hike involves some climbing as we ascend to the top of Mt Jaimathang. For many it is the trip highlight as the views from the summit are superb, especially looking towards Mount Feathertop.
We start today’s walk along the Mt Fainter Fire Track to Tawonga Huts where we stop for morning tea and on to Mt Jaimathang for lunch.
On the return trip, guests can choose to return to the vehicle on the Mt Fainter track (at approx. 12km), for those who are keen to continue we walk back along the trail and past some high country huts.
Walking distance: 3 km (approx. 2 hours walking, easy grade).
After breakfast our guides will pack the trailer and we will depart the lodge.
This morning we have a short drive to Cope Hut. Our delightful morning walk sees us visiting some of the most iconic high country huts in Australia, including the famous Wallace’s Hut.
After Cope Hut we follow the trail around to Wallace’s Hut, the most photographed and iconic hut of the High Country. It is only a short walk of all up three kilometres, enough to get some warmth into your muscles.
On our way back, we will stop at Myrtleford for lunch.
After leaving Myrtleford we will then have a short comfort stop at the Ned Kelly siege site in Glenrowan and this will be followed by an afternoon tea stop at the Fowles Wine Cellar Door Cafe (any purchases here are at your own expense).
We are scheduled to arrive back in Melbourne at approximately 5.30pm.
If you are travelling from interstate to join the trip please DO NOT book a return flight before 7.00pm.

The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.Force Majeure'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.EvacuationsIn rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.Travel InsuranceIn view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
