Arrive into Ayres Rock Airport (AYQ) and enjoy a complimentary transfer to Longitude 131°, where you will receive a warm signature welcome. Settle into your luxurious tented pavilion and savour the stunning views as the light shifts and changes over Uluru. Observe the sights and sounds of the desert along one of the circular walking tracks or simply relax by the swimming pool, a contemporary ‘billabong’ with sunlounges and a help-yourself bar.
In the late afternoon, drive into the dual World Heritage-listed National Park to the famous Uluru sunset viewing area, the best place to watch the sunset. Enjoy a cold drink from the exclusive pop-up bar and watch the monolith transform in glowing shades of orange, pink and purple.
Once the sun has set, it’s time to experience Bruce Munro’s internationally acclaimed art phenomenon, Field of Light. Wander through the solar-powered installation as it blooms and appears to sway as darkness descends over Australia’s spiritual heartland.
The evening seamlessly segues into an exclusive dining event among the dunes at Table 131°. Feast on delicious multi courses with matched wines as you discover the wonder of the outback’s inky night sky. The Milky Way will play centre stage, shining brightly without the distraction of city lights.
After a delicious breakfast, embark on a guided walk of Walpa Gorge. Walking into Walpa Gorge is like entering an ancient temple crafted by nature. The entrance is decorated with clusters of pink daisies in the late winter. Inside, the rocky track gently rises to a seasonal stream, passing rare plants and ending at a grove of spearwood. As you walk, your guide will regale you with the region’s natural history, explaining how eons of weathering and continental upheaval have created what is seen today. After, visit the Cultural Centre where the informative and interactive display will provide insight into the cultural and spiritual meanings of Uluru and Kata Tjuta.
In the afternoon, venture to the base of Uluru for the Mala Walk to Kantju Gorge. Enter the caves where the Mala (rufous hare-wallaby) people camped when they first arrived at the monolith and see the kitchen cave where they prepared their meals. You will see fine examples of rock art before arriving at the gorge in time to see the sunset. Enjoy canapes and drinks as the sun illuminates the rocks with fiery red hues that contrast with the electric blue sky.
The evening culminates in an intimate dinner at the Dune House.
Walking Information: Uluru Base Walk: 12km/7.5mi | 4hrs | EasyOptional Upgrade to Valley of the Winds Walk: 7.4km/4.5mi | 5hrs | Moderate to Difficult
Start your day with a guided hike: the Uluru Base Walk (included) or the Valley of the Winds (additional cost).
The 4-hour Uluru Base Walk takes you around the perimeter of Uluru, travelling through lightly forested areas and red sand stretches, along boardwalks and among grasses and spinifex. The walk passes by several sacred Aboriginal sites, with an opportunity to discover more of the monolith’s cultural significance and place in Australia’s history.
The 5-hour Valley of the Winds walk, meanwhile, traverses rocky terrain, cool groves, canyons and creeks before ascending through a steep gorge between red domes to reveal a relief of rolling green plains. Enter the sacred territory of Aboriginal Anangu men, a place where traditional men’s business is carried out. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife along the way, from ‘euros’ or rock wallabies to lizards, finches and colourful budgerigars. Many walkers experience a spiritual connection with the country.
The afternoon is yours to do as much or as little as you like. Why not take your Red Centre adventure to new heights with a scenic helicopter or plane flight (additional cost)? Alternatively, why not treat yourself to a facial, massage or body treatment at the Red Ochre Spa (additional cost)? Or simply rest and relax by the pool and soak up the serenity?
Cap off a magical day with dinner at Table 131° under the stars, a one-in-a-lifetime experience not to be missed. As the amber sun sets over Australia’s spiritual red centre, Uluru, the stars appear in numbers too great to measure and the culinary adventure begins. The host will present the tales of the stars from both the traditional Aboriginal land custodians and famous astronomers of the past. The night meanders on as the stars brighten and the conversation flourishes.
Tonight, sleep in a luxury swag on deck beneath the stars in a true state of zen.
Wake up in your swag on deck to one last spectacular sunrise.
