The Bay of Islands is famous for its sunny weather and beautiful coastal and marine landscapes, where dolphins and orcas are known to frolic.

The Sanctuary is located in the heart of this beautiful region in the township of Opua. The tourist hotspot of Paihia is just five-minute’ drive away, while the beautiful coastal town of Russell is 30-minutes by ferry from Opua.

The closest airport is Bay of Islands (Kerikeri) Airport, located 30 minutes’ drive away. Transfers can be arranged at a nominal charge.
