Approx. 8km (5 miles), 3.5 hours walking, easy grade
Departing from Launceston, an early morning pick up between 6-630am from your accommodation see’s you on a 40 minutes' drive to a favourite local café. Stop for a coffee break as your guides provide an overview of your great adventure ahead. Leaving the busy world as we know it behind, continue to the far northwest, deep into the West Coast and Tarkine Wilderness region.
Explore Laraturunawn (Sundown Point), with two Tasmanian Aboriginal people who will welcome you to their Country with a smoking ceremony and cultural experience that will leave you immersed. A gentle walk to Sundown Creek traverses rugged and gnarly coast line. Along the way admire ancient rock carvings and sweeping views of the magnificent rock formations of Arthur Heads before gliding up the beach and arriving at Arthur River, which is the most western point of the island of Tasmania.
You’ll stay at Arthur River for the next two nights, a small township nestled on the banks of one of Australia's last truly wild rivers. Your well-appointed riverfront rooms boast breathtaking ocean and river views right on the ‘edge of the world’ inspiring a sense of tranquility. This evening, enjoy a delicious three-course dinner lovingly prepared by your guides.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before a thrilling 6-hour cruise on the Arthur River, a truly unforgettable wilderness experience.
Enjoy the serenity of the river aboard and journey through pristine scenery into the Tarkine wilderness. Keep eyes peeled for waterfalls, platypus, native quoll, azure kingfishers and the feeding of the white-bellied sea-eagles are just some of the highlights you’ll pursue. Begin from the river mouth upstream for 15km pass the Arthur Franklin River junction before continuing to Warra Landing for a hearty lunch amongst the lush rainforest. Be captivated by one of the last truly ‘wild rivers’ of Australia as you cruise through fringed dense forest of myrtles, sassafras, celery-top pine, laurels, blackwoods, and marvel at giant ancient tree ferns. Cap of a magical voyage with an optional beach walk to compete the serenity or simply relax back at the hotel.
Approx. 13km (8.1 miles), 2.5 hours walking, easy grade
Rise and shine! An early start with breakfast on the go has you on a journey south to the trailhead of Mt Donaldson. Embark on a fresh 4-hour morning walk traversing dense rainforest before a change into button grass plains giving magnificent views of the Pieman River and its surrounding forests. A sight that will leave you breathless and make up for your early wake up call.
Enjoy lunch before weaving through dense cool-climate temperate rainforest on the Savage River Walk. Feel like the only soul as you embark on a faintly marked track and off the beaten path. Drink in the lush forest thriving with native trees from huge myrtle beechs, ancient tree ferns and sassafras. Keep your eyes peeled for gold as you stride an incredible section of ancient rainforest before walking into the doorstep of your home for the two nights.
You’ll stay at the cosy and rustic Corinna Wilderness Lodge, set in the pristine Tarkine in the largest temperate rainforest in Australia. Find little nooks onsite from your room to its patio where you can nourish your senses embraced by this remote settlement on the banks of the primitive river.
Tonight, delight your tastebuds at the lodge’s Tannin Restaurant boasting an exquisite affair of local produce and flavours.
Approx. 12km (7.5 miles), 5 hours walking, easy grade
Start your morning with the sunrise as you begin with another serene cruise, this time along the Pieman River. Step onboard the Lady Jane (weather permitting) as you cruise into a perfect balance of river and rainforest vistas. Be spell bounded by the magical mirror-lake reflections of the surrounding rainforest in the dark waters of the river. Keep a lookout for platypus and sea eagles and the rare and endangered slender tree fern. Breathe in the fresh air and savour the sounds of the forest waking up before arriving at Pieman Heads. End on the southern edge of the river mouth where back on dry land you’ll spend time exploring the pristine coastline. Journey south to the magnificent granite coastal rock formations of Conical Rocks. A return journey to Pieman Heads, enjoy a picnic lunch before boarding the Arcadia II, a historic vessel with decking made from Huon pine for the voyage back to Corinna.
Spend the afternoon with a splash as you go sea kayaking along the serene Pieman River or simply retreat back at your quaint cottage. This evening, gather together for a lovely three course dinner prepared by your guides.
Approx. 8km (5 miles), 2hours walking, easy grade
Begin your day with a thrilling ride across the Pieman River on the Fatman Barge. Marvel at the remote western road as you meander pass sleepy towns that once boomed with the riches of early mining. The once bustling main street is now home to the West Coast Heritage Centre. Admire an extensive collection of fascinating history as you wander back into its past and tap into the heritage of the area. Explore the mining relics in the yard, experience what an underground mine was like in the Crocoite Cavern, see minerals and rocks and climb aboard historic trains.
Enjoy lunch before a journey to the towering Montezuma Falls, one of Tasmania’s tallest waterfalls at 104 metres. An easy 3 hours walk, traverse the base of the falls absorbing the tranquil rainforest of leatherwood, myrtle, sassafras and giant tree ferns. Along the way, collide with native wildlife up close including an array of birds. The track follows the historic route of the former North East Dundas Tramway giving you sweeping views as you look up and out at the thousands of tree ferns that line the trail all the way to the falls.
You’ll stay at a quaint lakeside lodge nestled on the banks of the beautiful Lake Rosebery in the midst of ancient rainforest and mountains. From the windows watch the reflections on the lake rippled by waterbirds, fish and platypus. Unwind in your cosy ensuite room, warm up beside the open fireplace or indulge in a drink or two at the bar before a hearty dinner together.
Approx. 6km (3.7 miles), 5-6hours walking, moderate grade
Your final day is another early start yet an inspiring one. Embark on a short drive to Mt Murchison, the highest point on the West Coast, as you take on what is considered one of the most stunning day walks in Tasmania. Begin with a walk through spectacular rainforest rich with myrtle and celery top pines and into alpine vegetation. The hike to its summit is challenging yet boasts staggering views of the Tarkine, alpine lake and the Mountains of Tasmania's World Heritage Area including Cradle Mountain. Savour the moment as you drink in such a tranquil sight. If weather prevails, an alternative climb to the lower Mt Farrell gives an easier hike to its summit.
Leaving inspired and conquered, journey on a beautiful scenic drive back to Launceston where your incredible adventure ends.

Tasmania is located between Latitudes 40 and 43, with the island’s temperature and weather moderated by the surrounding oceans. The cool temperate climate offers four distinct seasons which can interchange on any given day of the year. Summer North West Coast temperatures range from highs of 16–25 degrees C and lows of 6–11 degrees C. The average annual rainfall for the west coast is 2400mm. January (150mm) and February (100mm) typically averages only one‐third of the rainfall of July and August, though even in the driest months rain usually falls on every second day.

The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.Force Majeure'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.EvacuationsIn rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.Travel InsuranceIn view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
