Approx. 1.6 km (1 mile), easy grade
After a leisurely breakfast, we depart from Hotel Grand Chancellor. Our scenic drive takes us through the enchanting Mersey Valley to Mole Creek. Here, we embark on a short and easy walk (1.6 km, class 2) to a lookout point 200 m above the Mersey River valley, providing a spectacular view of Tulampanga (Alum Cliffs).
After a morning tea break, we continue our drive (2-2.5 hours) through picturesque Tasmanian forests to the historic silver-mining and hydro town of Tullah. Upon arrival, we'll embark on a walk. Our day concludes at Tullah Lakeside Lodge, where you can relax in well-appointed rooms or take a short stroll around the lake before enjoying a well-earned meal at the in-house restaurant, Lakeside Bar and Grill.
Approx. 11.5 km return, easy/moderate grade
Today, we drive to the remote historic mining town of Corinna via Zeehan (total 3 hours). Our aim is to arrive in the early afternoon, allowing time for short walks in the area. The drive includes sealed and unsealed roads, and we'll even cross a river using a barge! On the way, just outside Tullah, we'll stop and walk to Montezuma Falls (11.5 km return, class 2). This easy walk follows a former tramway through wet, steep, and thickly forested west coast terrain, leading to one of Tasmania's highest falls (104 m). We'll also visit a bridge offering excellent views of the falls and the surrounding wild rainforests. In the evening, we'll savor a delicious meal at the Tannin restaurant, nestled within the pristine temperate rainforest of takayna.
Approx. 5.5 km return, class 3, or 17.5 km return walk (class 3, elevation gain 1016 m)
Get ready for a full day of hiking through the diverse landscapes of takayna/Tarkine. From stately rivers to old myrtle forests and buttongrass moorlands, the terrain offers a mix of easy to challenging trails. The path varies from boardwalks to uneven wooden steps and winding, steep dirt trails. Bring your sense of adventure and determination! You have various options for walk lengths and sections, ranging from a 5.5 km return walk (class 3) along the Savage River from Corinna to a full 17.5 km return walk (class 3, elevation gain 1016 m) to the summit of Mt. Donald son (437 m). Dinner will be served at the Tannin restaurant.
Approx. 8 km (5 miles), easy grade
Start your adventure with an early-morning 1.5-hour boat cruise along the Pieman River to the river mouth. After disembarking at Hardwicke Point on the northern bank, we'll head northwest through coastal heathland, reaching the sea at Pieman Heads. From there, we'll continue along the wild and rocky coastline to Rupert Point, where sweeping views await. Returning to Hardwicke Point (approx. 11 km return), we'll board the boat for a leisurely cruise back to Corinna. In case landing at Hardwicke Point is not possible due to high seas and strong westerlies, an alternative walk south through coastal heathland to Conical Rocks (approx. 14 km return) will be offered. Dinner will be enjoyed at the Tannin restaurant. Please note that the activities for days 4 and 5 may be swapped, depending on boat availability.
Hike 1: Approx. 2.6 km return, class 3
Hike 2: Approx. 600 m return, class 3
Today, we bid farewell to the beautiful takayna/Tarkine region as we depart from Corinna and return to Launceston. However, before leaving, we'll fit in one or two more short walks. The first walk is located just before the old mining town of Waratah—Philosopher Falls. This mostly gentle walk (2.6 km return, class 3) takes you through lush temperate rainforest, with a steep set of steps leading to the falls. After morning tea and a brief stop in Waratah, we'll continue our journey (30 minutes' drive) to Hellyer Gorge car park for a final short walk (600 m, class 3) and lunch. We'll then return to Launceston via Burnie (2.5 hours) and the scenic coast road, with potential stops to explore local produce (timedependent). We say goodbye to you in Launceston, and you can choose to remain for one or more nights to experience the laid-back and congenial atmosphere of the city. You may also be interested in exploring the Tamar Valley, renowned for its delicious local produce and intriguing attractions. We generally arrive back in Launceston between 4-5 pm.

The walking level on this trip is rated Level 3 Moderate.
Level 1 Leisurely: Experience is not necessary; anyone fit and healthy enough to complete a weekend walk will thrive. Walks are often optional. Trails are seldom flat, so expect a reasonable number of ascents and descents. You normally walk for two to five hours per day; daily ascents will likely be around 985ft to 1,640ft (300m to 500m), perhaps with the odd day around 1,970ft (600m).
Level 3 Moderate: Expect easy, medium-length walks or harder, shorter walks. Some experience is useful, but not essential. Good health and reasonable fitness are important. There will be walks at higher altitudes and some longer, harder days. Generally, though, the underfoot conditions will be fair. A walking day is normally five to seven hours; daily ascents will likely be around 1,640ft to 2,625ft (500m to 800m), perhaps with the odd day around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m).
Level 5 Challenging: Fitness is vital with extended walking in mountainous terrain. You might also experience high altitude, challenging climates and remote locations. Trekking experience is desirable, but not vital if you are confident in your physical condition. Walking days are usually between six and eight hours, although they may be longer for passes or peaks. Daily ascents can be around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m), perhaps with the odd day around 3,610ft to 3,940ft (1,100m to 1,200m).
Level 7 Tough: Trekking experience is essential and preferably at altitude. You need complete confidence in your ability to trek for many days over difficult terrain. You may encounter extreme altitude and weather conditions and may need to use ice axes and crampons. Stamina is essential as walking days last six to nine hours (sometimes more on occasions). Daily ascents will likely be around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m), perhaps with the odd day around 3,610ft to 3,940ft (1,100m to 1,200m).
Split and optional grades: Where a trip falls between two grades, an intermediate or ‘split’ grade is used. For example, Level 2 (Leisurely/Moderate). Occasionally there are optional ascents available; in this case, the grade will be highlighted.
