Escape into the ethereal beauty of Umbria, as we embark on a guided walk that promises to whisk you away to a mediaeval paradise. The scenic circular route, starting and ending in the charming town of Bevagna promises to be an absolute feast for the senses. We stroll through picturesque vineyards, take in breathtaking vistas, and sample some of the area's best wines and sagrantinos—some of which have been aged for up to 30 years—before we call it a day.
The combination of Bevagna and Montefalco, two of Italy's most picturesque towns, will leave you spellbound and wanting more. After a morning of magical exploration, we sit down to a delicious picnic lunch surrounded by stunning scenery.
Later in the afternoon, we begin our immersion experience at the renowned Cantina Baldassarri. Consume charcuterie, bruschetta, and cheeses while lubricating your palate with the region's finest wines and olive oil.
Approx. 7km (4.3miles), 3-5 hours walking
As we lace up our shoes and get ready to embark on a trek across the hills and roads surrounding our resort, the morning light is at its brightest. Stunning views and a taste of authentic Italian culture await you on this spectacular walk to the hilltop village of Collazzone.
Immediately upon our arrival, we are called into the kitchen of a dedicated local chef who is more than happy to demonstrate his skills in front of us. We get our hands dirty in the kitchen and learn to make fresh pasta, tiramisu, and flan from scratch.
After lunch, we take it easy by the magnificent pool, basking in the sun's rays and relishing our stunning surroundings.
Again, we will gather together to take a trip to Todi, another breathtaking mediaeval town. Our trip takes us on an exciting climb to the top of a hill for a panoramic view of the village and the hills in the distance as the sun sets. Your guide is delighted to provide us with exquisite choices for a sumptuous dinner at one of Todi's many intriguing restaurants.
Our journey to Assisi, Italy, a charming hilltop town in the heart of the Italian countryside, begins as the sun rises. As the birthplace of Saint Francis, Assisi is a significant pilgrimage destination in Italy and rightfully holds a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
Once we reach this legendary location, you will be allowed to take in the pulsating energy and freely explore this sacred site on your own. Even so, we recommend a few sites that are sure to take your breath away, such as the Basilica di San Francesco, which dates back to the 13th century. The grave of Saint Francis is located within this magnificent early Gothic complex, which also features the world-famous frescoes by Giotto.
You can also take a walk through the picturesque alleyways, see the pink-and-white striped Basilica of Santa Chiara, which is famous for its mediaeval art murals, and marvel at the majesty of the Temple of Minerva, with its towering columns that have survived the test of time. The Rocca Maggiore, a massive stone fortification built in the 12th century that has protected the town from invaders for centuries, should be your final stop.
As we take in the peace and serenity of our surroundings, we can't help but be appreciative of the chance to visit such a remarkable place. But sadly, as the day winds down, we must depart from Assisi, taking with us only the most cherished of memories.
Our travels today take us to Perugia, the lively capital of Umbria and a bustling academic town. As we begin our journey into this enticing realm, our first visit will be at Casa Museo Del Cioccolato, a chocolate museum where we will learn everything about the history of this delicious treat. It's a delicious adventure for the senses, and as we devour bar after bar of Baci Perugina, a divine chocolate with a hidden message inside, we realise we never want to leave this chocolate paradise.
But eventually, we have to tear ourselves away and head toward the heart of Perugia, where the city centre awaits us. Here, we are free to explore to our heart's content, taking in the many sights and sounds that abound. Then, a guided tour awaits us, where we're led to some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the famed Piazza IV Novembre.
Finally, there is the Rocca Paolina, a mysterious mediaeval fortification that was constructed during a time of immense upheaval for Pope Paul III. We can't wait to investigate every nook and cranny of the network of tunnels and rooms that lie dormant beneath this massive structure, which is supposed to be riddled with stories of treachery, secrets, and intrigue.
Approx. 11km (6.8 miles), 5-6 hours walking
Today, you will visit the beautiful mediaeval town of Spello, where the narrow, winding lanes create a gorgeous tapestry, bursting with the colours of amazing flower displays that will leave you in awe. With our knowledgeable guide leading the way, we will make our way through this maze and stop frequently to admire the beauty of the "Town of Flowers."
We'll be walking through some beautiful, sun-drenched landscapes on our route to the quaint town of Collepino as we make our way down the Path of Olives. Down the way, we'll get to see the impressive Roman Aqueduct and several old abbeys. Located on the foothills of Mount Subasio, this charming village will enchant you with its old-world allure and breathtaking panoramas.
Although this area is well-known for its premium wine production, our journey will conclude on a less expected note: a tour of a local brewery, where "beer geeks" and wine experts alike will be impressed. A delicious end to the tour and a fitting last nightcap are the expertly prepared brews that reacquaint us with the art of beer. Cheers!

We typically run this tour from May to October to take advantage of the best weather.
April and October have the lowest average temperature and highest chances of rain, although warm sunny days are not unusual. In the mornings and evenings, the temperature may drop considerably, so keep an extra layer and warm clothes with you.
From June to September, the temperatures will be much higher, rising to 35C-40C (95F-104F) in July and August, with a much lower chance of rain. We try to start our walks earlier to avoid the hottest hours of the day but please be aware that temperatures and humidity may be high. You should feel comfortable and be used to walking in the heat. The presence of mosquitos may also increase during this time, so we recommend you take repellent with you.
The walking level on this trip is rated Level 2 Leisurely/Moderate.
Level 1 Leisurely: Experience is not necessary; anyone fit and healthy enough to complete a weekend walk will thrive. Walks are often optional. Trails are seldom flat, so expect a reasonable number of ascents and descents. You normally walk for two to five hours per day; daily ascents will likely be around 985ft to 1,640ft (300m to 500m), perhaps with the odd day around 1,970ft (600m).
Level 3 Moderate: Expect easy, medium-length walks or harder, shorter walks. Some experience is useful, but not essential. Good health and reasonable fitness are important. There will be walks at higher altitudes and some longer, harder days. Generally, though, the underfoot conditions will be fair. A walking day is normally five to seven hours; daily ascents will likely be around 1,640ft to 2,625ft (500m to 800m), perhaps with the odd day around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m).
Level 5 Challenging: Fitness is vital with extended walking in mountainous terrain. You might also experience high altitude, challenging climates and remote locations. Trekking experience is desirable, but not vital if you are confident in your physical condition. Walking days are usually between six and eight hours, although they may be longer for passes or peaks. Daily ascents can be around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m), perhaps with the odd day around 3,610ft to 3,940ft (1,100m to 1,200m).
Level 7 Tough: Trekking experience is essential and preferably at altitude. You need complete confidence in your ability to trek for many days over difficult terrain. You may encounter extreme altitude and weather conditions and may need to use ice axes and crampons. Stamina is essential as walking days last six to nine hours (sometimes more on occasions). Daily ascents will likely be around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m), perhaps with the odd day around 3,610ft to 3,940ft (1,100m to 1,200m).
Split and optional grades: Where a trip falls between two grades, an intermediate or ‘split’ grade is used. For example, Level 2 (Leisurely/Moderate). Occasionally there are optional ascents available; in this case, the grade will be highlighted.
It offers a balanced mix of city and countryside walks. The terrain and paths we walk on include paved tracks, roads, forest trails and gravel. The walks are not technically difficult, but there are some ascents and descents, so reasonable fitness levels are required.
