Rimu Lodge is located in the small village of Rimu, named for the tall native rimu forest that once stood as far as the eye can see. Today, Rimu is a commuter town for Hokitika, where the domestic Hokitika Airport is located just 10 minutes’ drive away. Hokitika Airport is the “Gateway to the West Coast”, operating scheduled daily services to Christchurch, as well as scenic flights.
Rimu Lodge has just four guest rooms to reduce impact on the environment and maximise a sense of luxury and exclusivity. All guest rooms feature large comfortable beds, ensuite bathrooms and incredible views of the river and mountains. Other features include flatscreen TV, table and comfortable chairs, refrigerator and complimentary tea and coffee facilities. Telephone and free WIFI internet facilities are also available. The communal outdoor deck is a great place to enjoy the morning sun.
Enjoy your gourmet breakfast looking out over the breathtaking Hokitika River and the alpine peaks beyond. The menu may include Eggs Benedict, French Toast, homemade muesli, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts and freshly squeezed juice. For lunch, head into Hokitika for one of The Hokitika Sandwich Company’s famous sandwiches. Dinner options include Stumpers Bar & Café and Ocean View Restaurant & Bar.

Head 400 metres out the door to the start of the Rimu Heritage Walk where you will find information panels on the 1882 gold rush. Try your hand at fishing for perch, salmon and trout in Lakes Kaniere and Mahinapua. Cycle a section of the West Coast Wilderness Trail, one of New Zealand’s Great Rides, and take in lovely lakes, rainforests and wetlands. Or, play a round of golf on the Mahinapua Links Course with magnificent views of the Southern Alps.
