South Australia's Iconic Outback Pub

Dating back to 1876, The Prairie Hotel is the quintessential Australian outback hotel. Fourth generation Flinders pastoralist and cattleman Ross Fargher and wife Jane bought their ‘local’ back in 1991 and transformed it into Australia’s most awarded outback accommodation, international landmark and destination. To this day, Ross and Jane continue running The Prairie as well as cattle on their Nipena Station, with sons Lachy and Eddie an integral part of the ongoing adventure.

Step Back To Prehistoric Times

Journey back to a time when dinosaurs ruled the Earth with an exclusive tour to nearby Nilpena Station. The Fargher’s recently surrendered two thirds of the Nilpena Pastoral Lease to the South Australian Government; this land will become part of the Ediacara Conservation Park, conserving globally significant fossils ever after. One look at the fossils and you’ll understand why they will be the centrepiece of the South Australian Government’s pursuit of World Heritage-listing for the Flinders Ranges.
