Location

Pen-y-bryn Lodge is situated atop South Hill in Oamaru, three hours’ drive south of Christchurch. The largest town in North Otago, Oamaru boasts New Zealand’s oldest public gardens, renowned Victorian architecture and two penguin colonies.

The closest airport is Christchurch (CHC) International Airport, which receives flights from a large number of domestic locations as well as Australia, Singapore and Japan.

 

Victorian Elegance

Pen-y-bryn Lodge has just five spacious guestrooms, each with its own unique design. Remodeled and expanded in 2015, each room features a super-king, king or queen size bed, ensuite bathroom and gorgeous views over the grounds and gardens. Some rooms also feature a sitting area. Throughout your stay, enjoy full use of the lodge facilities, free and unlimited ultra-fast broadband internet and complimentary soft drinks, tea and coffee. You may also make use of the small fitness room equipped with rowing machine, stationary bicycle and a selection of weights.

Exceptional Dining

Evening dining is a highlight of any stay at Pen-y-bryn Lodge. As members of both the Slow Food Movement and the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, your hosts take the preparation and presentation of meals very seriously and pride themselves on serving nutritious, local and seasonal foods that taste delicious. Meals are served d’hôte style, with guests generally sitting together at large tables in the elegant dining room with a fire blazing in the background during cooler weather. Historic Grandeur

Built in 1889 for a successful local businessman, Pen-y-bryn Lodge is the largest single-storey timber dwelling in Australasia. The Lodge was awarded Category One historic status by Heritage NZ in recognition of its “special or outstanding historical or cultural heritage significance or value”. To this effect, you will find many antiques and artworks around the Lodge dating back to the original owners, who used a four-year trip to Europe during the construction phase to source decorations for their new home.
