Today, you meet your trip leaders at 9 a.m. in the lobby of Thon Hotel Lofoten, our first hotel of the trip located at Torget 8300 in Solvær, Norway. Please arrive dressed in your hiking attire and bring your luggage and daypack with your rain gear and anything you may need for today’s adventure gear (your luggage will stay at the hotel and will be transferred to your room)
Hello Lofoten Islands! A spectacular destination is known for its pristine scenery with dramatic mountain peaks, secluded bays, wide open seascapes, and charming villages.
After meeting in Solvær, we pack our lunch and lace up our boots to start our hike along Solvær Lake. The ascent brings us to Nøkvatnet, a local hiker’s hut that is situated above the pristine lake of Nøkvatnet. As you get close to the top, sweeping views of the glacier-carved landscape open up before you. Stop for a moment and admire the stunning panoramas before trailing back down toward town.
Afterward, we board a high-speed Zodiac boat for a ride through the shimmering Trollfjorden, the perfect close to familiarising ourselves with this wild island paradise— an adventure on the water. At the end of our boat ride, we return to Svolvær harbour and settle in the Thon Hotel Lofoten. A 4-star contemporary hotel set on the water’s edge, in the heart of Lofoten, offering breathtaking views of Svolvær and its harbour. Rest and relax in your comfortable rooms before we meet again.
This evening we gather for a welcome reception and then sit to savour a delicious dinner made with fresh Lofoten produce.
TWO HIKING OPTIONS: Level 2, Approx. 8 km (5 miles), Elevation gain: 122 m (400 ft) Level 3, Approx. 10 km (6 miles), Elevation gain: 457 m (1500 ft)
This morning, after devouring a flavourful breakfast, we shuttle to a picturesque white-sand beach, Haukland, known for its crystal blue water. Here we hit the trail and make our way along the water, waving to the local sheep while we take in our dramatic surroundings. If you feel like taking on more, climb to Mannen Peak for more views of the breathtaking areas.
After hiking, we enjoy a refuelling lunch before we shuttle to our home for the next two nights, Nusfjord. It is one of the oldest and best-preserved fishing villages in Norway and is a World Heritage Site. We will go on a private tour of the historic village where we learn about the settlement and traditional means of cod fishing that garnered its inhabitants here.
After the day’s activities, settle in your charming robru, a traditional Lofoten fishing cabin that creates a symphony of historic charm and modern comforts at Nusfjord Arctic Resort before we enjoy an excellent dinner at the exquisite Restaurant Karoline.

Today, we will dive deeper into the shimmering waterways and towering peaks that dot the landscape of Lofoten. We start our morning by heading towards Kvalvika Beach. Once you spot the secluded cove surrounded by towering cliffs, descend along the rocky terrain to reach the white sand and bright blue water. Until the 1930s there were year-round residents in this remote bay. The area has now been left to nature, but we may see ruins of the former structures being slowly reclaimed by the island.
If you’d prefer a less arduous hike today, return the way you came for an out-and-back that offers new views as you head down in the opposite direction. Those of us up for a longer hike will head up to the challenging climb to Roren Lookout, a beautiful ridge line overlooking Yttresand Beach. As you follow this trail, be on the lookout for sea eagles and cormorants soaring overhead.
You can choose to have a laid-back day off the trail today. Stroll through town and check out the quaint museum and general store. The crimson buildings along the way make for perfect postcard photos.
Whatever activity option you choose today, we will all have time to kick our feet up with a good book in hand in our cabin this evening and enjoy the views from the terrace lit up by the midnight sun. Tonight you have the chance to dine on your own in the village for delightful Norwegian delicacies. Your leaders are also happy to recommend their favourite spots to you.
THREE HIKING OPTIONS: Level 2, Approx. 6 km (4 miles), Elevation gain: 152 m (500 ft) Level 3, Approx. 11 km (7 miles), Elevation gain: 183 m (600 ft) Level 4, Approx. 11 km (7 miles), Elevation gain: 579 m (1900 ft)
Wake up to the morning light and enjoy a tantalising breakfast. Afterward, we shuttle to Reine, where we embark on another exciting Zodiac boat ride along the deep turquoise waters of Fosfjord to meet our local guide for a hike to the pristine Bunes Beach. The beach is surrounded by towering peaks of slick granite and is one of the most isolated and scenic in the Lofoten islands. If you’d like to take on a challenge, climb to the famed Helvetestinden (Hell Peak) for incredible views and some amazing photo opportunities of Bunes, the North Sea, and Vestfjord. Or, you could head back to Reine and join a kayak tour along the fjords on your own to see the peaks from a different viewpoint (not included in the trip price).
We return to Reine at the end of the adventures for today. Here, red and white cabins dot the waterfront and mammoth granite peaks rise from the fjord in every direction surrounding the village. Keep your camera ready for the short but stunning walk to our wonderful home for the next two nights, seaside Reine Rorbuer, where spectacular views of the sparkling fjord and jagged cliff greet you at every turn.
After settling in your comfortable abode, relish a delightful dinner at Gammelbua restaurant, which specialises in locally caught fish.
THREE HIKING OPTIONS: Level 2, Approx. 5 km (3 miles), Elevation gain: 122 m (400 ft) Level 3, Approx. 8 km (5 miles), Elevation gain: 366 m (1200 ft) Level 4, Approx. 11 km (7 miles), Elevation gain: 549 m (1800 ft)
After a delightful breakfast, we hop in a short shuttle to our trailhead for today’s epic hike options. This route exposes all the wonders of the Lofoten landscape as it is surrounded by towering peaks that dip down into a jigsaw puzzle of inland lakes and the surrounding ocean. We start with an easy hike to Studvals Vatnet for a lakeside picnic with a view. From here, you can choose to turn around and head back to Reine for a relaxing afternoon. Or, if you’d prefer to pump some more adrenaline, continue from Studvals Vatnet and join Oya on the Monkebu Hut route. Although parts of the trail have tricky terrain, with a short section of chain to assist your climb, the views that await here make the challenge worth it.
In the evening, we reconvene to celebrate our Lofoten adventure with a farewell toast. As the Vikings would say, Skål! (Cheers!). Afterward, we enjoy a fantastic meal together at our inn’s restaurant.
This morning we embark on a final journey, visiting the last inhabited town on the archipelago, so-named Å, the last letter in the Norwegian alphabet. Here we move to the old stone-oven bakery for a fresh cinnamon bun after visiting the historic cod-liver oil factory.
Then bid farewell to your trip leaders and board a ferry for a cruise across the sprawling Vestfjorden to Bodø, where the trip ends.
