Kyoto has a humid subtropical climate, but is generally comfortable during the spring and fall months, when it experiences mild temperatures and modest rainfall. Along the coast, the weather is cooler and more variable; you'll want to have a warm layer to carry with you during the day and for chilly evenings. If your trip falls in late May or early September, you can expect temperatures in the Kyoto area to be very warm, and along the coastal areas we visit, trips that take place in early May and late October may see more rain and temperatures that are consistently chilly. No matter when you visit, it's likely you'll encounter rain at some point during the week.
