Welcome to Delhi! Be ready to meet with your tour leader and, subsequently, to fit your bikes for the adventure ahead. Also, for safety and comfort while riding, your bikes will be checked, prepped, and ready for our cycling days ahead.
Once dialed in and fully serviced, we tackle our first piece of cycling with a relaxed ride to acclimate to the local area and also get your legs warmed up.
Today's evening is special. We gather by 6 pm for a welcome briefing on what the next fortnight holds. It's a great opportunity to break the ice, chat with your fellow travelers, and gain valuable insights for our adventure. We'll seal it off with our first group dinner together at a nearby restaurant, courtesy of your leader.
For your first night, Ashok Country Resort sits in a quiet green area on Delhi’s outskirts and 4 km from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. It features a beautiful swimming pool equipped with comfortable loungers, a serene lawn for group gatherings, and gardens where you can just kick back and relax. Spacious, air-conditioned rooms complete the experience with modern bathrooms, mini fridges, and bathtubs for added comfort.
If you would like to extend your stay in Delhi, please contact us.
Approx. 25 km (16 miles), 2–3 hours biking
Rise early for our official first ride. Right before the city awakens fully, we head out, riding the morning cool and quieter roads, and slowly easing into India's lively traffic. This morning's leg stays well within a relaxed 25km (15.5mi) ride, and then we track back to the hotel for a hot shower and breakfast.
By the afternoon, we head out again to experience the contrasting worlds of New and Old Delhi. This time, we'll ditch the saddles to explore this wonderful city by vehicle and on foot. Our route weaves past the grand colonial landmarks of Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate, and then into the bustling, centuries-old lanes of Old Delhi. From the scent of spices wafting through the air to street vendors calling out their daily specials, Old Delhi is a sensory feast.
Also, not forgetting the constant buzz of local daily life, which adds to the experience. Pause to admire the magnificent Jama Masjid from the outside. It is one of India's largest mosques and is capable of welcoming around 25,000 worshippers at once. We visit Raj Ghat next to see the simple black marble memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of modern India. Meanwhile, our bicycles and main luggage are transported ahead to Jodhpur. It would be best to have your toiletries, a change of clothes, and any overnight essentials in your day bag before our transfer to the station.
This evening, we board an overnight train to Jodhpur. Your track-floating vessel features air-conditioned compartments that wrap you in authentic, local charm. Onboard, you have access to your personal bunk bed and clean sheets, while restrooms are shared between guests.
Approx. 23 km (14 miles), 2–3 hours biking, Elevation gain: 122 m (400ft)
Arriving at the Jodhpur station this morning, a short transfer brings us to our hotel, leaving the rest of the morning free for you to rest and recharge, or acquaint yourself with the local neighborhood at your own pace.
In the afternoon, we pedal out on our bikes for a spectacular sightseeing ride. Jodhpur, the historic former capital of the Marwar kingdom, is a fortified oasis enclosed by a vast 10km (6-mile) wall. Our point of interest this afternoon is the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, which sits on a massive cliff right in the centre of the old city. Because the fort is perched 400 feet up on a sheer rock face, it essentially anchors the entire defensive system. From the ramparts, you can see the old town's famous sea of blue houses. Did you know these houses were traditionally painted this way to identify the homes of Brahmin families? It adds a whole new layer to the view when you realize you are looking at the historic neighborhoods of the highest caste in the traditional Hindu social order.
With its walls of richly coloured red sandstone and a surrounding three-acre green garden, the heritage Shree Ram International Hotel is elegantly placed on Residency Road. To elevate your stay, you have access to spacious rooms filled with traditional carvings. The facilities are even better, with guests open to swimming in the outdoor pool, enjoying dinner at the multi-cuisine Basil restaurant, or partaking in a luxury spa experience after the overnight train ride.
Note: Room upgrade available, please contact us.
Approx. 74 km (46 miles), 4–6 hours biking, Elevation gain: 912 m (2,992 ft)
Today being one of our epic cycling days, we'll hit the road early with a scenic 25-mile (40km) morning ride away right from the hotel. Afterward, you can kick back and relax as we enjoy a 3.5-hour drive to Ranakpur, home to a stunning 15th-century Jain temple. Carved entirely from gleaming marble, this masterpiece features 29 majestic halls supported by 1,444 uniquely detailed pillars. In an engineering miracle, no two pillars are carved alike, yet they are aligned so perfectly that not a single one blocks your view of the main deity from any angle.
After exploring, a quick 30-minute ride conveys us to a local roadside Hindu Temple. From here, we climb on the back of our saddles to pedal through one of the oldest mountain ranges on Earth. The Aravalli Hills date back over 600 million years and are way older than even the Himalayas. Finally, we draw the curtains for today with an evening transfer into the lakeside town of Udaipur.
Paras Mahal is romantically perched 1-2 km away from Lake Pichola in Udaipur's Iran Magri area, and thoughtfully combines classic Rajasthani style with lake views and sunset terraces. The rooms are well-appointed and elegant, all featuring plush comforts. Plus, the featured facilities make it an even more satisfying base to relax after long days of cycling. Guests especially enjoy the swimming pool, spa, multi-cuisine restaurant, and underground pub, perfect for a sunset drink.
There's a good reason Udaipur is called the "Pearl of Rajasthan" and the "Venice of the East." It is easily the most romantic city in India, and first to steal the spotlight is the massive City Palace, which sits right on the eastern shores of Lake Pichola. This unique location is one of the reasons it is so striking. The palace sits directly above the lake, seemingly floating, with sweeping views across the water toward the Aravalli Hills. Also, it is easy to identify its two island palaces, Jag Mandir and Jag Nivas (which you might recognize as the famous floating Lake Palace Hotel), both rising beautifully out of the water.
After breakfast, grab your bike and go wandering in Udaipur's peaceful countryside. Most of the route is smooth and flat, connecting quiet rural backroads where local farms, small villages, and the beautiful waters of Fateh Fateh Sagar Lake and Badi Lake are among the highlights. We’ll finish the ride right near the edge of town, leaving the rest of the day to explore the magnificent City Palace.
Approx. 65 km (40 miles), 4-6 hours biking, Elevation gain: 981 m (3,2182 ft)
After breakfast, Iswal is just a 90-minute drive away, and also where we unrack our bikes for the journey to Kumbhalgarh. Today, rather than taking the traffic-swamped main roads, we follow gentle countryside lanes that weave past vibrant local villages, offering a firsthand glimpse into authentic rural life. Most of the riding will be in the afternoon, when the sun is at its warmest. But if it gives you any comfort, our support vehicle is always nearby should you need to break from cycling in the heat.
Reaching Kumbhalgarh, we disembark the saddles for a satisfying, unhurried lunch to refuel, before giving our legs some time to recover. The latter part of today is scheduled for a visit to the legendary Kumbhalgarh Fort. It is an option if you decide to ride 5 km (3 miles) up the mountain. Otherwise, a relaxed 4x4 ride to the entrance is a good way to save up your energy for when we reach the hilltop fortress. At the top, Kumbhalgarh showcases some of Rajasthan's most remarkable defensive architecture, alongside beautiful temples, historic palaces, and commanding views of the Aravalli Hills.
Cradled quietly against the rugged backdrop of the Aravalli Hills, the Kumbhalgarh Forest Retreat wraps you in pure mountain tranquility. Here, you can unwind beside the outdoor pool as it reflects a peaceful private lake, or head up to the open-air terrace restaurant to sample rich, local flavors. To find total privacy, retreat to the cozy, independent cottages for a truly blissful wilderness escape.
Approx. 35 km (22 miles), 2–3 hours biking, Elevation gain: 894 m (2,933 ft)
Today, we welcome back the sweeping desert scenery en route to the holy town of Pushkar. Along peaceful rural backroads, we pedal to meet the main highway, then load up our bikes in the support vehicle for the remaining five-hour drive.
Pushkar rises beautifully out of the desert dunes as a sacred Hindu pilgrimage town surrounding a holy lake. Legend tells us that Lord Brahma, the creator god, formed the lake from falling lotus petals, and you will visit one of the world's few temples dedicated to him. It would be interesting to also find that, aside from featuring 52 sacred bathing ghats (steps leading to the lake) and around 400 milky-blue temples, this town is famous for hosting the annual Pushkar Fair. If you're lucky enough to visit during the fair, expect a lively spectacle of colorful markets, camel trading, cultural performances, and festive energy to take over the town.
The remainder of today is free to soak up the sights and sounds before we head to our hotel.
Inspired by the heritage of the Masuda Royal Family, the 4-star Dera Masuda is a boutique luxury hotel located on Motisar Road in the holy town of Pushkar. It is positioned against a scenic backdrop where the rooms look out to the majestic Aravalli Ranges and also the sacred Savitri Temple. More than just the opportunity to relax in a highly rated outdoor pool, you will delight in refined interiors, well-manicured gardens and a multi-cuisine restaurant, amongst others.
For our special festival departure: leaving on November 14, 2026, our itinerary is well adjusted to maximize your time at the legendary celebrations. We extend your experience to feature two unforgettable nights in Pushkar on days 7 and 8, letting you fully immerse yourself in the opening festivities by the sacred lake. To balance the extra time spent at the festival, we have modified day eleven into a single, action-packed night in the wilderness of Sariska Tiger Reserve (also known as Sariska National Park).
During your time at the fair, you will experience the magic of the desert by staying in charming Swiss cottage canvas tents equipped with private, attached bathrooms. These rustic setups are wonderfully authentic, with simple facilities, meaning there is a chance of running low on hot water or electricity. However, you can rest assured knowing your leader is always on hand to immediately resolve any discomforts you may encounter. We also include every single meal during your festival stay to let you focus entirely on the unforgettable energy of the celebration.
Approx. 60 km (37 miles), 4-6 hours biking, Elevation gain: 457 m (1,499 ft)
Today, we bid farewell to the sacred sands of Pushkar and pedal onward through quiet desert backroads and welcoming local villages to Rupnagar.
Rupnagar is a lively center for marble workers, so what you see today is real local craftsmanship happening live as we ride through. If your legs are feeling strong and you want to keep the adventure going, you can choose to extend your ride by another 21 miles (34km) all the way to the Naraina railway crossing. From there, we load up our gear and enjoy a relaxing 90-minute to two-hour vehicle transfer into the legendary Pink City of Jaipur.
Located in the heart of Jaipur, and radiating royal elegance with beautifully appointed rooms, the regal Vesta Maurya Palace offers the perfect retreat after exploring the Pink City. Spend quality time in a refreshing swimming pool, or escape to the rooftop terrace to soak up views of the city. The hotel also features a multi-cuisine restaurant and bar, all within easy access.
Approx. 12 km (7 miles), 1-2 hours biking
If you choose to partake in our early morning ride, you may as well plan for an early wake. For today, Jaipur's narrow alleys are inviting enough for us to cycle just as the city gates open. We pass historic havelis (private mansions) and quiet, sacred temples, making our way to the majestic Albert Hall, built back in the 1870s to welcome the Prince of Wales.
Eventually, food comes calling from popular food stands. Pause to enjoy breakfast the Jaipur way, eating exactly what the locals eat. We jump back on the road to complete the ride, then track our way back to the hotel to rest and recharge for our sightseeing journey later.
The towering walls of Amber Fort are located just outside the city, and further to the south, the magnificent City Palace. Once the residence of the Maharaja, its fascinating museum showcases royal costumes, weapons, manuscripts, and centuries of Jaipur's regal heritage. Of course, our day also includes a dedicated photo stop at the iconic Hawa Mahal (the Palace of the Winds). Jaipur is a massive, hardworking center for traditional handicrafts, and you will see local trades everywhere, from woven rugs and carpets to block-printed cloth, semi-precious stones, and leatherware.
We make sure our stay includes plenty of time to wander through the busy markets so you can experience the city's hustle and bustle, and even pick up an authentic souvenir if it catches your eye.
Approx. 60 km (37 miles), 4-6 hours biking, Elevation gain: 463 m (1,519 ft)
After what feels like a wonderful chaos in Jaipur, it feels incredibly satisfying to now transition back into the quiet heart of rural India. We split the morning with a quick drive to Jamwa Ramgarh to get clear of the city traffic, then on our bikes for a beautiful ride to Sariska. The route takes us through Pratap Garh, pedaling through the scenic foothills of the Aravalli mountains.
The rustic Sariska Safari Lodge is spread across acres of quiet countryside, with large lawns, comfortable rooms, and a big swimming pool. It is very laid-back and far away from the city, while also being close to a bird sanctuary. This means you can easily cycle out from the hotel lobby and straight into the famous wetlands to see hundreds of colourful, exotic bird species.
For our special festival departure: If you are booked on our November 14, 2026 Pushkar Fair departure, we will shift the schedule around just a bit so you don't have to rush through the festival. You get two full nights to soak up the atmosphere in Pushkar on days seven and eight, and one night in Sariska National Park on day eleven, replacing our optional afternoon ride. No matter which departure you are on, as soon as we roll into Sariska on day eleven, we trade our handlebars for seats in open 4x4s and head out for an early evening safari.
Approx. 14 km (8.5 miles), 1-2 hours biking
We start the morning out in the open air, heading into the bush in 4x4s before breakfast. It would interest you to find, as you go, that Sariska is an incredible park to explore early in the day. Here, you have a high chance of spotting leopards, deer, wild boars, antelopes, jackals, and even hyenas. Also, if you love to just kick back and admire colorful birds, the landscape is absolutely full of different species, too.
Back at the hotel, breakfast is served a little later than usual, and then you have the afternoon to relax, or join us for an optional 8.5-mile (14km) ride. If you feel up to it, we pedal through the nearby rural communities, offering a genuinely authentic look at how people live and work in a classic Rajasthani village.
Approx. 20 km (12 miles), 2–3 hours biking, Elevation gain: 399 m (1,309 ft)
Rise to a proper breakfast, before we ride out from our hotel to Muhwa. Here, we climb down from our saddles to hitch a one-hour or approximately 1.5-hour vehicle transfer to reach our place of lunch.
A final drive of one to two hours brings us to Bharatpur National Park, home to the internationally renowned, UNESCO World Heritage-listed Keoladeo Ghana National Park. The air here feels entirely different, which is incredible when you realize this entire region was originally a dry, semi-arid plain entirely dependent on monsoon rains. Much of what you see today is a brilliant solution from the Maharaja of Bharatpur, who diverted water from a local irrigation canal to make this place a sanctuary, only formally recognized as a bird sanctuary in 1956. The interesting part is, we get to experience this water paradise the best way possible, on two wheels, cycling down tranquil pathways and also identifying numerous wildlife. The sanctuary is blessed with over 360 species of birds, including countless egrets, ducks, coots, storks, and kingfishers, while owls, eagles, and harriers glide overhead.
Your accommodation for tonight is none other than the 4-star Kadamb Kunj Resort near Bharatpur’s famed Keoladeo National Park. It is the perfect escape for birdwatchers, being close to the park, and the ideal retreat for those seeking an indulgent family time. The property boasts lush gardens, an outdoor pool, and a multi-cuisine restaurant, all sharing the warm heritage of Rajasthan.
Approx. 35 km (22 miles), 2–3 hours biking, Elevation gain: 158 m (518 ft)
We say goodbye to Bharatpur this morning and welcome to the rural heart of the region as we set out on two wheels. Our backroad route leads us through Fatehpur Sikri, the striking, abandoned capital city where Emperor Akbar once ruled over a vast empire. Later in the day, we rest our legs during a one-to-two-hour transfer to Agra, and then arrive just in time to watch the day’s final rays hit the Taj Mahal.
Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a timeless resting place for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631, this monument holds an energy that you can feel the moment you walk through the gates. It never fails to stun a first-time visitor, largely because it is never the same monument twice; the translucent marble exterior mirrors the sky, shifting colors with the sun, while the delicate gemstone carvings inside are a testament to a love that refused to be forgotten.
Tucked away just minutes from the Taj Mahal, Hotel Taj Villa captures the warmth of genuine Indian hospitality. It is a cozy boutique retreat where modern comfort meets a relaxed, family-friendly vibe. After a busy day exploring Agra’s historic streets, you can unwind in the indoor pool or enjoy a fresh meal at the on-site restaurant.
With a perfect location, tucked just minutes from the Taj Mahal, Hotel Taj Villa captures the warmth of Indian Hospitality. The staff here are warm and welcoming with a family-friendly vibe that feels like home. The rooms follow the same path, immersing you in contemporary, air-conditioned spaces furnished with mood lighting. If you feel like it upon arrival, you can unwind in the indoor pool or enjoy a freshly cooked meal at the on-site restaurant.
Wake to our final morning, where we get to explore the imposing Agra Fort. Behind its massive red sandstone walls, we also discover a hidden world of delicate white-marble palaces, elegant courtyards, and peaceful fountains built by Emperor Akbar and later expanded by his successors, Jahangir and Shah Jahan. Come afternoon, we board our comfortable bus for the five-to-six-hour journey back to Delhi, arriving in the early evening.
To celebrate what has been a truly incredible journey, your tour leader will organize a final group dinner. Bask in the wonderful gesture as we raise a glass to what we have achieved over the past two weeks.
Modern, well-located, and a sweet, comfortable conclusion to your Rajasthan adventure, Rockland Hotel is a 4-star property located on the Outer Ring Road in Chittaranjan Park. Inside, enjoy a restful indulgence in well-appointed, air-conditioned rooms, all with convenient access to an infinity-edge rooftop swimming pool, a terrace, and the on-site Tamarind restaurant, offering multi-cuisine dining.

October to March is the ideal time to visit northern India. Days are normally warm to hot and nights cool or mild. Humidity is very low and little or no rain falls. In March, April and October, it can get very hot during the day. Evenings in Delhi and in the Thar Desert can be surprisingly cool, so bring warm clothing plus a sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. It gets very cold in the early mornings and evenings between December and February.
It can be hot and humid in India, particularly during September-November and March-May, which can increase the difficulty of the cycling.
This trip is rated 3 out of 5, Moderate.

Speed: You should feel comfortable cycling at a continuous, steady pace throughout this trip, even on the longer days.
Monuments: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is responsible for the conservation of many monuments in India, including the Taj Mahal, and very occasionally this may mean work is taking place at sites visited on this trip. The ASI schedule is never published so it is not possible to forewarn when work will be taking place.
Festivals: Some departures coincide with Holi and Diwali, both fascinating times to visit India. We will seek opportunities to see the festivities, though we cannot guarantee what will be happening locally during our trip – the festivals are celebrated in different ways throughout the country.
Holi: typically involves people throwing coloured powders and water at each other and smearing powder on each other’s faces. This tends to be done in local communities and families, so it is not always possible to be involved (though you may see the colourful results of this boisterous festival on the streets). During Holi, local monuments and markets close, so departures over Holi have a slight adjustment to the itinerary. In Jaipur, sightseeing is limited, so where necessary we include a cultural day to see local musicians and dancers perform; there may also be an opportunity to join in: playing with colours, dancing, and enjoying food and drinks. Your leader will happily arrange some Holi activities (supplement fees may apply) and you can also purchase the traditional white kurta outfit to look the part and avoid getting your clothes covered in the coloured powders.
Diwali: Some departures coincide with Diwali, the festival of lights to mark the start of the Hindu new year, in which people may illuminate their houses and shops and sometimes celebrate on the streets with fireworks. Lasting up to five days, celebrations can be local (within communities and families) and are not necessarily marked to the same extent throughout the country. We seek opportunities to see the festivities; however, we cannot guarantee what is happening in the area visited. There can be occasional road closures, particularly coming into Jaipur, which may impact your cycle route. You leader will advise you of any changes to the route as soon as possible.
Pushkar Fair: Each year, we operate a departure of this trip that coincides with the Pushkar Fair; please see days 7 and 10 of the itinerary.
Tour Leader: Our Indian team of leaders has proved very popular with their incredible knowledge, passion and hospitality adding greatly to the experience. There is no better way to experience Indian culture than letting an Indian leader show you around their country.
Bike: Standard Bike is Merida Big Seven 40/100 and Trek 3700 (mountain bike). Suspension: Front. Wheels & Tyres: 27.5in (Merida)/ 26in (Trek) with mountain bike tyres. Brakes: Disc (hydraulic). Gears: 27. Saddle: Sporty. Pedals: Flat. Bags & Panniers: None. Other accessories: Water bottle cages, bell, bike stand, pump
Food & Drink: Breakfast on arrival day is not included as you should be given breakfast on your flight. If you do want another breakfast, it costs approximately 660 Indian rupees (US$8) at the hotel in Delhi. Allow at least 1,400-2,400 rupees (US$20-US$35) per day for lunch and dinner. In most towns, there is a good selection of restaurants and a choice between Indian and Western cuisines. If you are vegetarian, India is probably one of the best destinations to travel to with a wide range of dishes on offer. Tea and soft drinks are very cheap. A large bottle of beer is approximately 330 rupees (US$4). Mineral water is widely available.
On this cycling adventure in Rajasthan, we spend 13 nights in a mixture of pleasant hotels, most with swimming pools. One night is spent on an overnight air-conditioned sleeper train.
Sleeper Train (Delhi to Jodhpur): Experience an icon of travel: the Indian sleeper train! Our journey takes us from Delhi to Jodhpur, skipping the long drive, while also allowing us to interact with the local people and sample the snacks often sold on board. The accommodation is basic: we normally stay in two-tier sleepers, the compartments sectioned off from the aisle by privacy curtains. Seats are allocated at the time the tickets are issued, so the whole group isn’t always together; however, our tour leader is an expert at making the journey as hassle-free as possible and will regularly check in with you. On the sleeper train, you may be sharing a mixed-sex compartment of four beds with members of the public, depending on how the seats are allocated.
Accommodation in Pushkar during the festival departure: are Swiss cottage tents (canvas tents designed to emulate Swiss cottages) with attached bathroom facilities. All meals are included.
Hotels: Hotels in India usually do not have heating as there are only a couple of months when the weather can get cold. You can, however, request more blankets if needed or the hotel may be able to provide a standing heater for your room. Please talk to your tour leader if you need help in this matter. Some hotels we use on this trip may have swimming pools; however, these are not heated.
Hot Water Use: It’s common for hotels in India to have limited times in the day for hot water use to save energy. If you find your shower is cold, please let your leader or reception know so they can make sure the water heater is on.
Single Supplement: Single accommodation supplement excludes sleeper trains.
Support Vehicle: A support vehicle is always with the group, so you only have to carry your day-to-day items.
Road journeys: Air-conditioned private minibus.
Train journeys: The overnight train to Jodhpur is booked in two-tier (or three-tier depending on availability) air-conditioned sleeper (see accommodation section for further information).
Game drives: In Sariska National Park, due to local restrictions enforced to limit the number of visitors to the park, big cat and wildlife spotting is from open-top 4x4s, which may not all have seatbelts available.

The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the tour or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.Force Majeure'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.EvacuationsIn rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer. For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.Travel InsuranceIn view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
