Arrive at Rarotonga Airport, where a private chauffeur will meet and transfer you to Pacific Resort Rarotonga. Here, you’ll be welcomed with a fresh flower lei and a souvenir aluminium refillable water bottle with fresh chilled water.
Spend the rest of the day settling into your accommodation. Laze by the swimming pool or venture down to magnificent Muri Beach. Dine with the sand between your toes at Sandals Restaurant or enjoy a tropical cocktail and watch the sunset at the Barefoot Bar. The complimentary Kids Club, meanwhile, provides some great activities for the little ones.
Embark on a half-day safari adventure to the interior of Rarotonga to visit some of the island’s ‘hard-to-get’ places. You’ll travel along the ‘Ara Tapu’, the coastal highway that runs parallel to the island’s white sand beaches, and the ‘Ara Metua’, the ancient inland road system built by warrior chief Toi, approximately 1,000 years ago.
Your tour starts as soon as you are picked up from your accommodation. Your knowledgeable and experienced guide will give you an overview of what the tour entails as you travel along the Ara Tapu to pick up other guests. Once everyone is onboard, you’ll venture inland on the Ara Metua to discover the lush tropical interior of the island. You’ll visit the green valleys of Avatiu and take in the heights of some of the more accessible mountains, offering spectacular views of the coastline and lagoon. Along the way, you’ll see taro plantations – the taro is an important food crop throughout the Pacific. You’ll learn of its history and how it came to the Cook Islands. You’ll also visit ancient marae (ceremonial sites) and learn about traditional land laws that govern the use of land and how it’s passed on from generation to generation.
Set out with Captain Tama to explore the magnificent Muri Lagoon on a glass bottom boat.
With hotel pick up included, cruise across the Muri Lagoon to a protected reserve, where many species of marine life dwell including giant clams, many types of fish and, if you’re lucky, the occasional turtle or stingray. You’ll have the chance to snorkel and feed the fish before heading to a motu (small islet). On the motu, you can enjoy more swimming, a stroll around the island or just relax in the sun while your friendly crew prepare a scrumptious fish BBQ lunch served with local fruits and side dishes.
You’ll be entertained throughout the cruise by your crew, who are also a well-known string band N.S.A (No Strings Attached). They guarantee you a fantastic time. On the motu, following lunch, there will be a pareu (sarong) tying show, where your crew will demonstrate how a simple and beautiful piece of material can be worn in style for many occasions.
Get off the beaten track on guided cycling tour along the ancient Ara Metua inland road. Led by a knowledgeable and experienced guide, this tour takes you 8 – 12-kilometres (5-7.5mi) along mainly sealed roads at an easy pace, allowing plenty of time for you to enjoy your surroundings, taste fresh produce, learn about island life, and even husk a coconut, if you want!
The tour finishes with a delicious local lunch.
Submerge yourself in Rarotonga’s reef without ever getting wet on a Raro reef sub! This is the only semi-submersible vessel in the Cook Islands!
Hop aboard to enjoy views of the island from the top deck or go below to discover and observe the wonderful sea life and shipwrecks. Giant Trevally can be fed from the boat as well as other fish, eels and rays throughout the trip. Out around the buoys you might see sharks, puffer fish and turtles swimming about. Whale watching is also an exciting experience when in season!
Spend today doing as much or as little as you please.
After breakfast, take a moment to immerse yourself in a self-guided tropical garden tour at the resort. Then, head out onto the water to make use of the resort’s complimentary snorkels, kayaks and paddle boards.
Feeling peckish? Savour a delicious poolside lunch at Little Polynesian Resort overlooking the turquoise waters of Titikaveka Lagoon. Specialty mains include Pan-Fried Catch of the Day served with island fries and salad, Ginger Lime Chicken Salad and Mongolian Beef Sizzler.
The rest of the day can then be spent in ultimate relaxation at the Te Manava Spa, where internationally trained therapists provide a full range of spa and beauty treatments in a tranquil water and garden setting. The Pacific Resort Rarotonga Nail Lounge is also available for express manicures and pedicures, as well as nail art and spa manicures and pedicures.
For the young ones (ages 6-12, children under 6 also welcome under parental or guardian supervision), there is no shortage of things to do at the Kid’s Club. Let them run wild with activities such as crab racing, weaving, dance lessons, sand castle building, coconut husking and more.
In the late afternoon, venture to to Te Vara Nui Village for a fascinating 2-hour cultural village tour. Set among picturesque rock waterfalls and lush tropical gardens, Te Vara Nui is the perfect place to learn about traditional methods including weaving and carving, medicine making, navigation techniques and the preparation of dance costumes. You will visit a marae (a sacred enclosure for religious ceremonies) where the High Chiefs of the village once met for ceremonies and any issues surrounding the village and its people.
After the tour, enjoy a delicious Cook Islands feast prepared by local and international chefs followed by a spectacular over-water show presented to you by Rarotonga’s finest dancers and musicians. By flaming torch light, these passionate dancers will perform for you through song and dance and on floating and fixed stages, the Legend of their ancestor “Tongaiti”, a voyaging warrior who set sail from a faraway land with his tribe, and how he came to settle in Rarotonga.
Cap off your holiday with one last delicious breakfast before transferring to Rarotonga Airport to commence your onward journey.
