Cobourg Coastal Camp is situated on the northernmost tip of Arnhem Land overlooking Cobourg Marine Park and Port Essington. You can visit the camp on a Venture North by road from Darwin via Kakadu and Arnhem Land or fly in on a multi-day fishing charter with Cobourg Fishing Safaris.
Stay in one of just 8 safari tents overlooking the picturesque bay. Designed to sit lightly on the land on raised platforms, the glamping tents are open and airy, with the protection of net screens and zip up canvas (for more privacy). Each tent has two comfortable spring mattress beds, a side table, fans and a light. The verandas are idyllic and the perfect place to sit quietly and watch the world go by. Or, if you’re lucky, spy a low flying sea eagle or crocodile coming up on the beach below.
Each evening sunset nibbles are served on the cliff top – the perfect vantage point to watch the sunset over the bay. Dinners of a high standard are prepared in the camp kitchen nightly and showcase a mixture of freshly caught seafood, vegetables and a myriad of local Northern Territory produce.
Purposefully designed with the wellbeing of the environment in mind, the camp is predominantly operated via solar energy and gravity-fed water, thus coexisting happily with nature. The showers are hot and embrace the outdoors by being open to the elements, with eco-friendly products on hand so you do not need to bring your own. Other facilities include a large open-air dining area, a commercial kitchen, an extensive library and lounge area with a selection of handcrafted instruments.
The history of Cobourg Coastal Camp pre-dates the present-day operation by over 50,000 years. The land has always been and will always be the land of the Madjunbalmi Clan, who have long used the nearby beaches, bushland and mangrove creeks for hunting and gathering. At the camp, you have the opportunity to meet local Indigenous people and learn first-hand about their extraordinary culture.
