Bruny Island, located just 40km from Hobart off the south-eastern coast of Tasmania, is the state's fourth largest island. The island is separated from the Tasmanian mainland by the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, and its east coast lies within the Tasman Sea. The island is about 50 km long but appears to be two islands with North and South Bruny joined by a narrow strip of land called Bruny Island Neck.
