This tour has been designed for active people with a love of nature and a bit of an adventurous streak. For the most part the walks are not particularly long however they do require walking over a lot of rocks which can be challenging for some people not used to balancing. This is however something that can be improved prior to the tour.
During your tour you will be staying at a range of campsites in comfort. You will enjoy the privacy and use of your own semi-permanent tent as well as a knee-high stretcher bed and mattress. For persons travelling in pairs, you may choose to share a tent. You will need to bring your own pillow and sleeping bag.

South Island's dramatic southern extremity has an ‘edge of the world' quality. Hump Ridge track is a wilderness treasure set in a bizarre sculptured landscape of house-sized rock tors, icy alpine tarns and weird limestone formations. Walking the Hump Ridge Track is a life-changing experience. The physical exertion will challenge but the rewards will take your breath away.
You'll enjoy a short helicopter flight to take you across Te Waewae Bay and heli-pack your pack (max 15kg) up the hill on Day 1. Wooden boardwalks ease your passage on the climb to the Hump Ridge. At 1000m, you feel ‘on top of the world’. The summit has a Lord of the Rings atmosphere and offers panoramic views of southern Fiordland and Stewart Island.
The next day is a steep descent following to a fascinating coastline where you trek along an old logging tramway that crosses mighty viaducts, including Percy Burn, the largest surviving wooden trestle bridge in the world.
The final section is a pleasant ramble along marine terraces clothed in some of the last remaining virgin beech in Waitutu Forest.
