Situated in the Tasman sea, 600km east of the Australian mainland, Qantaslink offers regular daily two-hour flights from Sydney. A Heritage listed island, only 400 visitors are allowed on Lord Howe at any one time. The island and its surrounding islets are the eroded remnants of a large shield volcano, erupting from the ocean floor some 7 million years ago. More then 70% of the island is permanent protected park reserve whilst the surrounding ocean is a protected Marine Park. Just about everything is within walking or cycling distance as the island sits at only 11kilometres long and between 0.3 and 2 kilometers wide.
