A Culinary Reflection Of Culture And Climate

Experience a sensory culinary voyage at the Kura Restaurant, where meals not only resonate with the changing seasons but reflect the culinary cultures and climatic influences of the region. Cuisines are sumptuous byproducts of ingredients sourced in the mountainous landscapes of Narai-Juku, void of additives, with authenticity and nourishment at the core of their creations. Enjoy regional specialties, such as miso soup, pickled vegetables, and a natural river fish grown in the Shinano River on a traditional kiso lacquerware.

Discover Rare Local Sake

The Suginomori Brewery and Tasting Bar in a renovated former miso paste storehouse serves savoury drinks and the signature local sake in an ambiance decorated with historic items found only in Narai-Juku. Relish the taste of the brewery’s special Japanese Sake, brewed on-site alongside local Shiojiri wines of global repute, curated from 16 wineries, featuring grapes from the unique soil. Other local drinks available in the bar include craft beer, craft gin, and single-malt whiskey. These drinks can be paired with finger foods from the region at the bar while socialising and having fun.

The San-sen

Whether you’re exploring the Nakasendo Trail or enjoying a getaway in Narai-Juku, a soothing immersion in the SAN-SEN public bath is a hedonistic indulgence that can relax your body and pacify a restive soul. This large public bath uses the water flowing directly from the Shinano River, whose source is the spring water from the Narai-Juku mountains. The bath house, over 200 years old, is created from five representative trees of the Kiso region – Hinoki and Sawara cypress, Hiba, Umbrella pine, and Arborvitae woods, inspiring a regional touch to the experience.
