As we cycle the most difficult and awesome ride of the tour today, the journey will test how far you've come these past few days. As you make your way out of Himarë in the morning, there is a climb, which is followed by a rewarding and pleasurable descent. After that, we have one more ascent to do before our coffee break. After we have our break, there is a pleasant downhill, but we have another climb to complete before we can regroup. After that, we are confronted with the arduous climb leading up to the Llogara pass.
This climb at a height of 1043 metres above sea level is entirely voluntary; thus, if you believe that it will be too difficult for you, you can get in the backup/support vehicle. If, on the other hand, you feel you are up to the task, this climb will provide you with a genuine sense of accomplishment, and the scenery is breathtaking. When standing on the pass itself (which you will also see if you take the van), on a bright and clear day, it is possible to see all the way to Italy. When climbing to the summit of the pass, it is a good idea to bring along a warmer layer.
From this point, you will reach Llogara National Park, which is known for its golden eagles, Eurasian otters, and black pines. The park is a beautiful stretch of protected woodland that extends across the northern side of the Llogara Pass.
We start our descent, and stop for lunch in the ambience of the exotic National park. In the afternoon, we make our way further downhill in the direction of our hotel, which is situated by the sea on the outskirts of the city. After a long day of cycling, this is the perfect place to unwind and cool off in the feel of the water.
You’ll stay at Hotel Coral, a beautiful resort located beside its own pebbly beach. Relax your muscles soaking in the sunshine on the beach, take a refreshing dip in the picturesque outdoor pool or laze by the bar’s terrace offering serene sea views.
Savour a relaxing breakfast overlooking the sea, a perfect time to reflect on your incredible journey before you bid farewell and make your own arrangements for your onward travel. Alternatively, airport transfers can be arranged at an additional cost, please contact us.

The biking level on this trip is rated Level 4 Moderate/Challenging
Level 1: LeisurelyIf you can ride a bike and enjoy gentle exercise, these trips are an ideal introduction to a cycling adventure. No routes are entirely flat, so expect some short climbs and descents. Maximum daily height gain is approximately 985ft (300m). The average daily distance is 12mi to 25mi (40km to 70km); on rare occasions, you may cycle up to 32mi (50km). Longer days are often optional.
Level 3: Moderate You need to be in good health and reasonably fit. Moderate trips are ideal for occasional/weekend cyclists or fitter riders looking for a more relaxed adventure. Off-road trips do not require experience. Expect average daily distances between 25mi and 43mi (40km and 70km); on rare occasions, you may cycle up to 62mi (100km).
Level 5: ChallengingFitness is vital. Challenging trips require confidence in your ability and physical condition. They are equivalent to an extended period of cycling at home. Mountain biking experience is essential for Challenging off-road trips, as they will involve some technical riding. Expect average daily distances between 31mi and 56mi (50km and 90km); on rare occasions, you may cycle up to 75mi (120km).
Level 7: ToughExperience of the trip’s cycling style is essential, with long days on the saddle and tougher terrain both on- and off-road. You need complete confidence in your fitness and technical ability to cope with difficult or steep terrains, rough surfaces and longer distances. Tough trips are ideal if you’re looking to test yourself. Expect average daily distances between 50mi and 62mi (80km and 100km); on rare occasions, you may cycle up to 100mi (160km).
Split gradesWhere a trip falls between two grades, we use an intermediate or ‘split’ grade, for example, Level 2 (Leisurely/Moderate).
Terrain and route: 100 percent paved, where some sections are in a poor condition with potholes and some unsurfaced areas. The terrain is undulating with some long, gradual climbs. The optional climb on Day 7 (3,422ft/1,043m) is the most challenging, although there is always the option of the support vehicle to get you up to the pass. We aim to use quiet roads where possible, although on one occasion we need to pass busy sections to reach quiet roads beyond.
On days 2 and 3, you are deep in the Albanian countryside and stay in comfortable guesthouses. In Germenj, you’ll stay in Sotira Farm, which is nestled in a tranquil valley, with fresh water running down from the mountains. It is also a trout farm, so dinner might be freshly caught from the stream. Here you'll stay in wooden cabins that contain two rooms with twin beds in each room. Each cabin of two rooms has a communal bathroom. In Benje, stay in a family-run guesthouse only a few kilometres from thermal springs and the Ottoman bridge. Dinner will often be taken out on the veranda, where you will be served homegrown produce. Rooms here are a little more basic than hotels, each with an en suite. For the remaining nights, stay in hotels that are of a comfortable three- and four-star standard, all with en suite rooms.
