Upon arrival in the city of Moab, the gateway to the scenic Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, and the county seat of the Grand County. Spend the day unlocking the alluring landscapes and region’s culture. The geological aesthetics of Moab will have you head over heels for nature. A region with more than a lot to see and do.
Ride the thrilling Raven’s Rim Zip line. Starting with an exciting ride on a 4x4 vehicle to the top of the cliffs overlooking Moab. Go on an exhilarating river rafting on the mighty Colorado River. Feel the rush as the wild white river swoops you through breathtaking red rock canyons and watch as the wonders unfold along the way. Visit Arches National Park and hike its many trails, a red-rock haven and home to the world’s greatest concentration of natural arches on Earth, housing over 2000 arches lined across its vastness. Traverse this beautiful destination at your pace and marvel at its magnificence.
Spend the morning enjoying all the goodness of Moab you can get as you prepare to depart. Later in the day, get aboard the opulent Rocky Mountaineer as we journey across the Utah-Colorado border. Arriving onboard, you are welcomed into luxury by your amiable hosts. Settle in the custom-designed glass-dome coaches and be left in awe as you encounter postcard-perfect views of the American Southwest past mountain vistas, desert cliffs, and vibrant sandstone mountains. Before long, you’ll have more than a feast for your senses as you will be served a mouth-watering three course dinner.
Relish scenic panoramas, including heart-stopping mountain views of Mount Garfield. At 6,765 feet, it’s the highest point of the Book Cliffs so it should be easy to spot! These sandstone mountains stretch nearly 200 miles from west to east. The route continues to follow the Colorado River as you approach one of the most majestic and colourful canyons along the journey. Admire the stunning red sandstone cliffs of Ruby Canyon, accessible only by train or from the river. This canyon is 25 miles long and is appropriately named after the vibrant ruby-toned cliffs that line the canyon walls.
Today's journey ends in the historic town of Glenwood Springs. Enjoy your evening at your own leisure in this true Wild West town, before relaxing in your cozy hotel.
Depart from the stunning resort town fully rested as you continue the magic from where you left off yesterday. Settle in the Rocky Mountaineer and enjoy a delectable two-course hot breakfast, perfect to go with the extraordinary vistas of rugged canyons Gross Reservoir Dam and the Colorado River. Slowly gain elevation before reaching the great Continental Divide. Be captivated as you glide through the historic Moffat Tunnel with 6.3 miles of mountainous terrain. As we journey east to the lively city of Denver, experience awe-inspiring sceneries of panoramic canyons. This is accompanied by great storytelling from our hosts serving as the perfect voiceover, all the while filling your stomachs with a delightful three-course regionally inspired lunch.
Make sure you keep your camera close as you travel along the Colorado River through a series of captivating canyons, including Byers Canyon and Gore Canyon. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife as these canyons are the perfect place to spot pronghorns, deer, and eagles.
