Guided Milford Track Walk – One of Great Walks of New Zealand Approx. 11km return walking, 3.5 hours (Easy Grade)
Away from the skies, the day trip assumes a new dimension on land, which magnifies every sight seen from above and brings you up close and personal with nature's dearest offerings in this region.
Upon landing on Fiordland, head to the Milford boat terminal, where a short boat ride will ferry you to Sandfly Point to begin the exhilarating hike around Milford Sound. This walk will last for three and a half hours on a well-marked path alongside experienced guides. The trek starts in earnest from Sandfly Point, snaking around the rolling Arthur River and then Lake Ada. The highlight of the hike and halfway point is the Giant Gate Waterfall. The views of this natural beauty are best enjoyed from the large swing bridge across the river, also a vantage point for scenic nature photography.
After the walk, there will be a time for photography at the sign that marks the end of the walk. The boots of other hikers who have completed the trail will be visible, a testament that you're not alone in savouring this naturally beautiful region.
The Beauty of Milford Sound on Water
Following the completion of the walk, transfer back to the Milford boat terminal, where Mitre Cruise Boat awaits your indulgence. Yield to its beckon and enjoy a scintillating two-hour cruise on the scenic Milford Sound with a guide pointing out highlight attractions as the water gives way for the advancement of the boat. Some scenic attractions along the waterway include Bowen Falls, snow-capped Mount Pembroke, and the ever-dazzling Mitre Peak, imposing its magnificent 1692-metre (5551-feet) frame over the waters.
The Final Scenic Flight back to Queenstown
