In the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, year-round temperatures are generally mild during the day and can be fairly cold at night. Thanks to the crater's high elevation— 7,500 feet above sea level at its rim—the sun is very strong here, so be sure to protect yourself. The Serengeti experiences a dry and relatively cool season from June to August, a warmer and still quite dry season in September and October, and a rainy and hot season starting in November with the main rains generally occurring in April and May. In areas of higher elevation, nights can be cool.
Be prepared for all weather, including hot daytime temperatures, cold evenings and the occasional thunderstorm. We recommend bringing sun-protective clothing and a wide brimmed hat as well as high-quality, waterproof rain gear.
