The trek begins at Kii-Tanabe station with an orientation from local staff, followed by a bus ride to Kawayu Onsen, where you can immerse yourself in the hot spring and relax. Savour a Japanese tantalising cuisine and rest for the night at the Kawayu Onsen Fujiya. Proceed the next day to Hosshinmon-oji to begin the walk on the Kumano Kodo trail. Tour the Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine and all of its marvels before boarding a bus to Katsuura Onsen on the coast. Afterward, be ferried to Kumano-Bettei Nakanoshima seaside resort on a private island to enjoy a Kaiseki set menu for dinner and spend the night. Take a ferry back to Katsuura and proceed to Daimon-zaka by bus. Explore the Nachi shrine-temple complex, and walk on the Daimon-zaka slope to behold the stunning Nachi Falls, which is the tallest in Japan. Explore Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine and the 5th-century Seiganto-ji temple before boarding a bus back to Kii-katsuura, and a train to Kyoto/Shin-Osaka, marking the end of the trip.

Recline and enjoy the nights of the trip at two premium accommodations, Kawayu Onsen and Kumano-Bettei Nakanoshima, along the trail set at the backdrops of fascinating nature. You begin your journey in Esperance, enjoy an arrival dinner and explore the delightful country town. Over the next few days explore Cape Le Grand National Park, known for its picturesque beaches and stunning scenery and embark on the Cape Le Grand Coastal Trai. Conquer Frenchman’s Peak, named after its resemblance to French troop hats in the 1800s and boasting incredible vistas of all the beaches of Cape Le Grand along with the nearby Recherche Archipelago. Next you will be taken to Hopetoun, the easter gateway to Fitzgerald River National Park and climb East Mount Barren. Walk the Hakea Trail amid health land, along beaches and over rocky headlands, boasting fantastic views of the ocean and along the coast. Visit the fascinating geological phenomenon of Wave Rock before ending your journey in Perth.

This tour has a focus on walking, with walks of various lengths, in remote and wild areas. Each evening we will return to nearby accommodation, so there is no need to carry heavy packs or sleep rough. Two guides will accompany you on the tour and one, or both, will walk with you each day. There are some steep sections, and a few beach stretches (although they’re mostly firm) and training is recommended.

During your walking tour you will be staying at a variety of different accommodations. For the first three nights you will be staying at the comfortable Island View Apartments in Esperance only a short walk from town. You will stay in 2 and 3 bedroom chalets, where you have the opportunity to mingle as well as have your own space.
